Hi - I need some help choosing a bike for my wife

You aren’t stuck with 25 kph as a limit on any pedelec. My Kalkhoff is heavy but can be pedalled past the 17 mph -25 kph plus 10% - cut out easily on the flat once it’s rolling. This Cytronex will be much lighter so once the power cuts out you keep pedalling.

Hi - I need some help choosing a bike for my wife

These seem quite expensive for what is a low powered front motor conversion though. To take the example of a Cannonade Quick 5 that is £499 list and available from Evans Cycles for £359 currently. The Cytronex converted bike is £1445. I don’t know what else is on it but over a grand for a low...

Electric Mountain Bikes: No one will buy one?!..

The simple point I was referring to is that the use of modified e bikes might well get all e MBs banned at trail centres and organised events. A dongled and so illegal bike almost certainly invalidates the trail centre’s insurance as it does other organised MB activities. As EddiePJ wrote...

Electric Mountain Bikes: No one will buy one?!..

It seems to me that KTM is well within his rights to call this dealer out. Col represents the importer of a major brand and he and it have an interest in the growth of e biking which in their view, and it seems in the view of others in the industry this dealer is jeopardising. If as he says...

Electric Mountain Bikes: No one will buy one?!..

Something to be said for 50 Cycles who do transfer warranties, and Woosh who do as well. The dealers who wash their hands of a s/h bike which was bought from them new, and might be only a few months old are not doing pedelecs any favours.

Is this Pedal-Assist Electric Bike true?

Trite but true….I didn’t bother to go into that.

Is this Pedal-Assist Electric Bike true?

Well, it is an electrically assisted bicycle and they are the main things which give the assistance. So pretty important.

    Spare battery advice

At least you don’t have to talk to it to encourage it and keep it calm.

    Attitudes to ebikes.

Think Samuel Beckett’s Not I and get into the rhyme of the words. The actual meaning is what you make of it.

Is this Pedal-Assist Electric Bike true?

Depends on the steel and the aluminium. Mass produced steel frames were and are heavy. Reynolds 531 and later versions of it allowed the tubes to be thinned in the middle leaving the thicker heaver ends to take the load. A 531 frame is lighter than a mass produced thick walled aluminium frame...

    Selling my Kalkhoff ....£795

Can’t say fairer than that. It really is a stonking bargain.

Is Kalkhoff losing brand quality in pursuit of development?

I think it was in a post of yours, and come to think of it I remember it was quoting someone in the UK who was selling cheaper shopper bikes to customers here. But it might not even have been you at all. Or me if it comes to that. It might have been two other fellas.

Is this Pedal-Assist Electric Bike true?

I’m sure it is possible depending on how much the rider pedals. The more work the motor does the more battery power it will use, and it will use more it it goes fast or up hills. So the size of the battery and the amount used per mile will determine the range. If the power is turned right down...

    Remove stuck bottom bracket

You have the right tools so assuming the bike is well clamped and you are turning it the right way something has got to give with enough leverage. Six feet of scaffold pole?

Is this Pedal-Assist Electric Bike true?

Looks a bit light on real information. A lot of puff and possibly some real wind behind it. Or maybe not. I like the “ I assembled a design team.” It’s in the US of course so if you are too… The range figure is the usual nonsense and it’s clearly not aimed at people who have had e bikes before.

Is Kalkhoff losing brand quality in pursuit of development?

I think it’s all part of the power race which manufactures are engaged in. Because the customers demand it mostly. I think KudosDave put it well on one of his posts when he wrote that most buyers of the cheaper Chinese bikes for instance won’t pedal, can’t pedal. The buyers of TS bikes for the...

    Selling my Kalkhoff ....£795

I don’t think I ever saw the step through version for sale on the 50 Cycles pages. Not new anyway. There are lots of models they don’t import. I would imagine it’s the crossbar one, and I remember seeing them being sold off at a discount at the time he bought it.. But on another thread he says...

Is Kalkhoff losing brand quality in pursuit of development?

I’m not sure that there are any motor problems really. Some people seem to be hearing noises but that has turned out to be loose cranks and the like usually. There was an issue with some batteries last year and I had one which failed after a year. But then I had a duff battery with my first...
