    Thoughts on these please

the Momentum model T is bigger than the Big Bear LS and a lot lighter. You are not very tall, otherwise I'd recommend the model T. The Smartmotion E-Metro is about the same size and power as the Woosh Santana, smallest of the three.

You won't ware out these pads quickly. turn the bike upside down, spin the front wheel and watch how the rotor spins between the two pads, see if it touches anything.

come to Redbridge this Sunday, we can race the BPM against the BBS01 18A 350W. I bet the BBS01 will win if derestricted, but I don't know which one will win if both are limited to 15mph, possibly the BPM.

I am not entirely clear on why a BPM motor (36V running at 20A) is legal while an BBS01 36V 18A 350W is not. The 350W rating on the BBS01 is maximal output, not nominal.

can you post a picture? The pads are auto-centering but there are limits - try to set the caliper such that the rotor is in the middle of the gap between the two pads.

yes, I have a 250W though. Hatti will bring the newer 350W BBS01.

    Plug and play kits

yes, you can. The 350W pulls a lot better than the 250W but you can pedal leisurely at assist level 1 or 2 for a little for speed (15-18mph). That's vey nice along the coastal roads. It has wider power range than the 250W model.

    Dillenger Electric Bikes Conversion kits

for speed, I'd go for BBS02 48V 18A 500W. Much more flexible without the weight.

get a Big Bear kit, you can choose front or rear BPM motor, winding code 13, £499 with 15AH battery. that'll pull you up 14% hills. http://wooshbikes.co.uk/?hubkits

    Plug and play kits

I'd go for the 350W. Nobody is going to pay any attention to the print (30mm by 7mm saying 'BBS01 36V 18A 350W' in white paint) that is on the underside of the motor. You have to turn the bike upside down to see it. scratch out the 'W' if you like.

What will be the next major step forward

the Zephyr (CDN) is an evolutionary step and Wooshes best selling folder. It's the best folding bike from Woosh so far, quiet and fast but the next two (folders) will improve on it. The Metro will have the power and speed, the Gallego will have the clever fold, both will be here end of October.

Noob Qs Pedal sensor and wattage /efficiency question.

just a quick note about Chinese CDs: the BBS0x have a very well designed controller, the Woosh CDs use run of the mill Lishui - the difference is very clear in the bike's response. The Sunstar is a premium product - the idea of varying power depending on the angle of the cranks looks promising.

    Handlebars

his handlebar (Sport CD) is made by Promax, flat bar, 25.4mm in the middle. The adjustable stem clamp is also Promax. On the Big Bear, it's 1 1/8 riser bar.

    Handlebars

they are normally standard size, 1" in diameter, at the thickest part (middle where it's clamped). If your feels loosened, tighten up the allen bolts a little from the underside of the adjustable stem.

    Woosh Big Bear

on the Santana CDL: first thing I'd do is to set the speed limiter to somewhere like 21mph. I also found that it climbs long steep hills very well on gear No 2, on maximum throttle. Don't bother pedalling unless you begin to lose speed.

    Conversion kit opinions

I'd go for the 18A BBS01. Easy to fit, well made, good speed, good power.

    Sonstar Virtus

the kit is beautifully designed but it's a bit too little, too late. The basic specs show 55NM torque while the trend is 80NM Yamaha, the idea of a combined torque sensor, crank angle sensor and PAS makes sense, you can log data directly to a USB stick and have a smart wifi stick by all means...

What will be the next major step forward

http://cleantechnica.com/2014/05/12/new-graphene-carbon-nanotube-supercapacitor/ This is a story about combining a large and light supercapacitor with a small Lithium battery. The idea is not new: the supercapacitor holds the charge, recharging the the Lithium battery which runs the bike...

What will be the next major step forward

That's what I am talking about. May be not this year though. The clever folding applied to an electric bike and weight reduction are the key issues.

What will be the next major step forward

Some people say that the Brompton was/is a significant step forward, some have been waiting for a good e-Brompton for ages. Until now, e-Bromptons are disappointing: front motor feeling too weak, battery too small or fouling the clever fold, rear hub kits can't keep the gear range etc. An...
