    Does size really matter?

yes, but you may not have the choice. The Panasonic hub motor comes with its special battery, you can't change that, the Bosch 400WH is the biggest they sell, still not very big. Bigger batteries can support bigger demand, better at hill climbing and require fewer charging cycles, ultimately...

    Wanted: Looking for fast eBike

Fast e-bikes are usually crank driven because you can use high gear to boost your speed. Once derestricted, you can go as fast as you can pedal. Kalkhoff have the S-Peledelec that you can buy in the UK: http://www.50cycles.com/product/613525400 Obviously, this is outside your budget. The next...

    Wanted: Looking for fast eBike

That bike is located in China, paddy. You need to wait for it to come by sea, pay import duty, VAT etc. Where you live, the same EN15194 certificate is required to ride the bike on public roads. 25mph bikes are difficult to make, you have to have hydraulic brakes, direct drive motor and a...

    How Much?

I like the FreeGo design. There is very little that can go wrong with it. A bit like the Momentum really. Two small bottles, who else has thought of that? Every time I see a bike with one of those water bottle batteries, I can't stop the urge to give it a little wobble test. If it wobbles any...

    Advice, expertise and opinions needed.

John Cade's best. It has about the fastest speed if derestricted out of all the legal bikes, light, goes in the back of the car nearly just as quickly as a folder, the range is not bad either, about 23 miles on flat roads and you are not going to lose any money on it and if you do, won't be...

    which bike to go for?

that's up to the guys at KTM to program the controller. I think they follow the same levels as with their Bosch bikes, 50%, 110%, 170% and 250%. The J-LCD is programmed for much higher assist level, 200% on level 1 to 900% on level 5, requiring much less input from the riders on pedal assist. Of...

    which bike to go for?

what's the highest assist level on the KTM? Typically, on Bosch bikes, you have these levels: eco: 50% tour: 110% sport: 170% turbo: 250% Assume you want to climb a 10% hill at 10 mph and you weigh 125kgs. Power required if using throttle: 450W You need leg power to be: eco: 300W (forget...

I think many of us like a challenge. Like that guy on the other thread, he lives in Ireland, bought a crap bike for something like £700 and now wants a bike that goes twice as fast, twice as far and for £600 including shipping from UK. To be fair, denwyn has clocked up 3 bikes under his belt in...

    which bike to go for?

the Oxygen does the job, the KTM doesn't because it can't have a throttle. But if you went for the Oxygen for the 8Fun CST motor and a throttle, then you should also include other bikes with CST/BPM because nearly all of them have throttle like the Volt Pulse X and the better priced Kudos...

how's this for a plan? get John Cade's bike for say £650 - use it for now till October, then decide to keep or upgrade. You won't lose money on it. Plus, you can experience the thrill of high speed cycling that only crank drives can offer! I hit 24mph on Southend coastal road on one like this one.

E-bike Costs versus Public Transport - Update

you don't have to say how many miles you're doing, just say your pads are worn. They'll believe you. You still have to learn to look after the bike yourself. The bike may not be worth much after 4000 miles, it's still cost effective against public transport.

E-bike Costs versus Public Transport - Update

he spent £880 over 6 years. in the Woosh Sirocco 2 case, over one year, the tyres are heavy duty knobblies, Kevlar puncture resist, they'll last a year, lube is only a toothbrush, a small can 3-in-1 oil and a small tube of Lithium grease, the rest is under warranty (wheels, chain, bottom...

Thinking of doing a trip up to London

How to get to Redbridge: http://www.redbridgecyclingcentre.co.uk/ The nearest stations are Grange Hill and Hainault tube on the Central line. I think 50 Cycles (Kalkhoff, Focus) will be at Redbridge. Woosh have short supply on popular models, the bikes sell out before the next delivery...

    Salisbury Powacycle:Need4Speed.Pics

the motor is only rated 180W, not one of the popular models seen here - you may fry it and the controller and the display unit if you overvolt. paddy's only done 50 miles with his new bike, fitting a new battery will cost at least £250 (he'll need a new charger), void the warranty and reduce...

there is no point derestricting a 24V bike. You'll waste your time and money. Put it on ebay and get another one like John Cade's Sport CD.

Hatti drives a Ford because she's totally not showy. She's very hard working, still owns and runs a 32 year old computer company at the same time she runs Woosh, and owns the shop premises where Woosh operate. As far as I know, she's never taken out a loan or a mortgage.
