    Illegal Bikes

Sorry. I dislike it when people use abbreviations such as this and don't explain what the letters mean. Here I am doing just that!

It might require SVA which adds to the complication and expense.

Help from a local Wisper owner

Or alternatively. I have no idea how you test the battery for capacity without access dedicated test equipment. This is a very difficult area when it comes to warranty claims, made all the more problematic if there is inconsistancy about what is being guaranteed.

    Illegal Bikes

The kinetic energy absorbed by the pedestrian when you pile into them. I agree with the points raised. At the moment e bikes sit nicely under the radar. As soon as there is a nasty accident involving an illegally modified bike, the media will sensationalise it and all ebike and their riders...

    Illegal Bikes

If you ran someone over on your bike and caused them a serious injury, or worse, the Police would almost certainly seize the bike and have it scrutinised by a vehicle examiner. If it had been modified or adapted to provide assistance beyond 15 mph, they would discover this and you could be in a...

    The most efficient motorised transport

Flecc, excuse my thickness, but the attached chart interests me, but I don't think that I can understand it. I understand that we are looking at a comparison between the old and new Panasonic unit being used by a 60 Kg rider to travel up an incline of 2 degrees at 15 KPH. The old model...

    The most efficient motorised transport

I agree with that. The motor on a hub type unit is effectively stuck in one gear all off the time, so it is only operating at its optimum efficiency at one road speed. Whereas a crank drive motor will be at its optimum efficiency at a range of different road speeds, the number of these efficient...

    Flashing on high for panasonic

The only time that I have had the mode lights flashing is when I have turned the power on whilst already peddling. It confused the sensor and throws it into error. Switching the power off and on again clears the fault. Hope this helps.

Hi Neil That's impressive mileage! What sort of assist speeds do you get with the 12 - 15 cog configuration? What has it done for the range of the bike?

27 Month Kalkhoff Pro Connect Review

I've not looked closely enough at the figures to work this one out PaulC. I know that a new Pro Connect costs between £1800 and £1900. Without re-charging at either end of the journey, based on my experience of a very hilly commute, 10 mile each way, the battery is going to last about 2...

27 Month Kalkhoff Pro Connect Review

I aimed this comment at the person who currently uses a car for say, a 20 mile round trip commute to and from work, and is looking for a way to reduce the expense. Cost reduction being the main objective. Both a scooter and an electric bike will save money by comparison to the car. Using an...

A brand new Smartabike but an old and clueless owner!

I have just noticed that you mention, "band brakes" on the rear of your bike. I'm not sure what these are or weather they will make wheel removal easier or mor difficult. When I talk about, "brake pads" I just mean plain old brake blocks on rim type brakes, nothing fancy.

27 Month Kalkhoff Pro Connect Review

Hi Neil This question is not intended to antagonise: Facts 1) The chain on my bike performs as well today as the day I took delivery. 2) If I replace the chain, it would be advisable to change the sprockets too, because they are very worn, and a new chain on worn sprockets is not a good...

A brand new Smartabike but an old and clueless owner!

Looking at the website for your bike, that rear wheel should come out reasonably easily. The gear changer cable hooks onto an actuator at the gear hub end, you'll see what I mean if you take a close look. The cable sheath terminates in a black metal bracket which faces towards the front of...

Hi Oriteroom This is the chain wax which I use here I have used other dry wax lubricants such as White Lightning Clean Ride, but I like the Bikehut brand the best. It seems to stick to the metal surfaces better than the others, but at the same time it doesn't congeal into a gritty mess...

..................CONTINUATION Summary: I realise that I have written more on the negatives than the positives. That said, my impression of the bike is generally very positive. I am pleased that I purchased this bike and if the clock could be re-set to June 2008, I would make exactly the...

    Spoke adjustment

That's effectively what Derby Cycles did for me. They supplied a 32 spoke front and rear wheel. The 24 spoke front front wheel was fine, it was the rear wheel which gave all the problems. For the sake of the cost of a stamp, it might be worth writing a friendly letter to Derby Cycles. Start...

    Spoke adjustment

Hi WALKERMAN. You might be better off talking to 50Cycles about any requirements you have regarding this 24 spoke wheel. I had many problems with mine and couldn't source anything for it. 50Cycles said they could obtain parts, but certainly my extensive efforts to do so through well established...
