cwah is a young guy, 25mph (assisted) is not out of the ordinary if the bike looks like a normal road bike.

dave, I cannot spin like you for sure but if one of us write defamatory statements, I leave the matter to members concerned. I bear you no animosity. I picked e-bike as a hobby to keep myself busy 3 years ago. Maybe I invest, maybe not. The thing about crank drive vs hub drive is a long thread...

dave. I did not say that BPM and Panasonic hub motors are illegal. I said 'if ... Then you see that the TCM and SWX may be legal and the BPM and P hub not.' you'll look like a loser if you misquote posts to win an argument.

dmsims to have the biggest hills near his house though. it would be fun comparing also the Kudos Tornado against the Mosso + BBS02. How fast does the BBS02 reach on flat roads?

why don't you send your Eiger out to a member like dmsims or jimod or d8ve or hoppy for review? they all have experience of CD with derailleur

I did not say anything of the sort. In all my previous posts, I always said that the bike is legal if the manufacturer says it is. They don't even have to have an EN15194 certificate for each bike, they can issue certificate of conformity themselves for variants of one that has certificate...

the subtext of that review is this: do you want an oil leak into your rollerbrakes? or do you want stuck gear? if they were made in Shenzen, fair enough, but at 20 times the price of a derailleur? anyone can google up 'problems with NuVinci N360' if they want to pick on them. Or maybe d8veh can...

dave, don't spin it, it will make you look like a loser. I said if... then. Sooner or later, the law will be clarified. I am pretty convinced that instant power would be limited to avoid misuse.

I am saying that there is a difference between nominal power (what's on the label) and instant power (what's coming out of the motor). The BPM dishes out 43% more power than the TCM can, at its maximum power on the same bike. If the manufacturers continue along the path of the Pana hub (47V...

you should google more, dave. google 'customers reviews of the NuVinci N360'. You won't find much compliments for the system. Here are a couple from amazon customers. They were enthusiastic when they bought it, then less and less over time...

I agree that the power of the BPM is not excessive on 36V when you weigh 18st and have to face a big hill. But if the BPM is allowed, on the strength that instant power does not count, only the label does, then what stops somebody to label the BBS02 'Nominal rating: 250W'? The BPM can deliver...

dave, here is a suggestion: let dmsims have your Eiger for a few days, then he'll tell us how well the Eiger with the Nuvinci does on the 15%-20% hills around his house compared to derailleur. Another suggestion: bring it to Redbridge next month.

The KTM with the P hub motor was powered with a 47V 10.5AH battery against 36V 8.4AH Bosch. For a fairer comparison, pitch BBS02 against Pana hub.

classic spin, dave. If extrapolated logically, BBS02 (BPM class power) should be allowed on legal e-bikes, would you say? the BBS02 is capable of 40mph when derestricted. Then you see my point: the power race is mad. The law will need to be clarified with regard to how much instant power...

I was pretty good in maths at school - you don't have to start me off! Remember the chainring spins more slowly than the rear wheel? the TCM has maximum output at around 86 RPM 60NM - after demuliplication for the gear ratio 60NM * 34T (rear) / 44T (front) = 46 on gear 1, 60NM * 28T/44T= 38NM on...

only 6 weeks to go now (30 August). Personally, I don't think BPM is going to make much of an impact in Europe because the profile of European customers are quite different.

I understand that the EN15194 specifications are separate from the EU-Directive 2002/24/EC but if I were an e-bike manufacturer, I'd be careful about using more power than necessary. The fact of the matter is that bikes with 14A controllers have been the 'formula' for a few years before BH...
