I understand your argument - the problem is not the physics on how power is measured but the legal definition of the '250W nominal'. To continue logically with this further down the line, If there is no limit on the maximum instant power, where is it going to be next year? 30A controller on the...

you should remember the context when the CDs were introduced. People at Woosh thought the BPM motor was illegal, so the comparison is made against 250W Bafang SWX type of motors which can only deliver 20NM torque on a 26" wheel. The TCM motor offers 60NM at the crank, even after gear ratio...

yes, it is. You can't sell bikes in France without help from the local dealers because the bikes must be ridable immediately from the box. If the customer uses the spanner and makes a mistake, it's your fault. Just watch the decathlon videos how decathlon sell bikes by mail order in France. Then...

yes and no - the computer on the more expensive bikes cuts power from half a second to one second - I tried to time the best gear change on various hills, it comes down to waiting for the chain to jump to a bigger cog, the time taken is proportional to the difference in number of teeth, about 2...

Shemoz posts about the impulse 2 gear change detection device here: http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/impulse-2-0-electric-drive-system.18361/ If you you keep to a lower ratio gear rather than higher one, the problem is alleviated, not removed but easier to handle. Of course doing so will...

I respect your view but the gear change issue is not related to budget. You can spend £4000 on a Haibike http://www.wiggle.co.uk/haibike-xduro-nduro-rx-ebike-26-inch-g2-2014/ - the issue is the same. Power needs to be cut before changing gear with all crank drives, same for kits made by Bosch...

the Woosh CDs have 14A controllers, the Bears have 20A controllers. That explains the difference in power. But the table will turn with the forthcoming Krieger CD.

the 15% gradient on throttle claim is with rider (75) + bike (25) = 100kg. Do you weigh more than that?

Woosh make better and better bikes, the Woosh CDs arrived about a year before the Big Bear and were much better than the Sirocco 2 (that preceded them) in terms of climbing power, which was better than the Sirocco 1 introduced 3 years ago etc - and the Big Bear LS is the most recent one, it...

Woosh have been going for 'low hanging fruits' for the last few years - budget commuters, plain looking bikes with big batteries because you want the range but not attracting thieves. I am not a fan of BPM bikes because they look heavy, feel heavy and ride heavy. As far as I know, their Big...

    Battery sparks - help!

The spark is caused by current flowing from battery to charger. Some batteries have their output voltage at the charging port. Unplug the charger lead from the battery, switch on the charger. If you see the green LED lit, then it should be OK to use.

this thread is about cheaper bikes, under £1000. In this area, Woosh bikes are competent and good value. kudosdave wants you to think that cheap equals nasty, it's nothing of the sort. Woosh bikes give his bikes a run for their money anyday. Don't take any notice.
