    Cheaper bike

all bikes have some compromise. Kudosdave makes the gear change on CDs into a big issue and makes you forget about the pluses of crank drive systems versus hub drives. If you ride sometime unpowered, if you like cycling at high speed, if you like climbing steep hills without worrying about...

    Cheaper bike

I know the current Big Bear is not your style, but the full sus Bear will have the BPM motor at the back, the rear suspension protects the spokes and it will come with front and rear Tektro hydraulic brakes.

    Cheaper bike

the Compy does have good look and climbing power but denwyn lives in Taunton, not particularly hilly. The Kudos Tornado would be perfect but he's allergic to Kudos. Also, his budget is now reduced. The new Bear will have hydraulic brakes and still under £1000.

    E-mopeds,e-scooters,legality?

if the size of the market gets over 50,000 a year, the big LBSes will open their doors to e-bikes and it'll be exponential growth, we have more fatsos than our neighbours.

    E-mopeds,e-scooters,legality?

most e-bike dealers don't have a million pounds or if they do, some are known to put it in a boat! seriously, on the continent, most e-bikes are sold by the largest LBSes in town but in the UK, our LBSes don't want us fatsos to come into their shops and spoil the sporty look of the displays so...

    E-mopeds,e-scooters,legality?

another one bites the dust? phone disconnected, online shop disconnected. It goes to show that the UK market is a very tough nut.

    Bike Rack

reducing weight usually means taking out the suspension in tthe front, mudguards, disc brakes and that BPM motor - you have to make do with two spring saddle, V brakes and the 250W SWXU motor. The good thing about this year is the BMS can now runs at 2.5C with new cells, so it's not all too bad...

    Bike Rack

the new Woosh bike for cyclists that will be here in the Autumn will weigh around 15-16kgs including battery. If you take off the battery, the bike is only marginally heavier than your Marin DS (about 13kgs).

    E-mopeds,e-scooters,legality?

They would be more successful if someone puts in some money to get them properly type approved. I test rode one of those with two seater saddle a couple of years ago, it had 48V SLA and 800W motor with provision for number plate and weighs about 50kgs. The advantage of these bikes is the comfort...

    Bike Rack

you're alright. I suppose they'll grow up soon and sell through the shops. They'll have a new bike in the Autumn much more suited to your requirements (more like your Marin DS than the dumpy Big Bear).

    Bike Rack

don't knock it - recently, more members buy Woosh bikes than any other brand.

    First Electric bike?

Gary, rear hubs give a sporty ride but are prone to breaking spokes. The more power to put into the motor, the bigger the risk. Front hubs don't have this problem.

    What would you buy/build

I'd put a Woosh front BPM kit on a good bike. It'll pull anything. http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/conversion-kits/front-bpm-kit/

    King Meter Power Down

I think the J-LCD keeps the odometer until you manually reset it. Other than that, only the average speed is lost when the J-LCD powers down.

    Wisper or Woosh

the Wisper battery costs about £500. There is the £700 Woosh Sirocco 2, similar specs compared to the Wisper: 8-Fun motor, 15AH battery. http://wooshbikes.co.uk/?sirocco2

    Woosh Big Bear Chainring.

garyten and me have about the same cadence, we top out the Big Bear at 21mph while I can top out the Sirocco CD at 24mph because the CD has 11-32T 8-speed cassette. If garyten swaps the rear wheel for a cassette, he'd have 8-speed at the rear while his shifter has only 7. You see the problem.

Need advice for a new ebike

30 miles a day is heavy commuting in and out of congested London. You'll need 15AH battery for the range and high gear ratio to let you pedal fast. Your £1400 budget limits you to Chinese bikes. I'd say best to go for a conversion of something like the Genesis Croix de Fer with a Woosh BPM...
