Sounds pretty much normal to me, some of them are quiet and some or a bit noisier. The QC isn't the best so depends where and which factory is was made in. If you search places like the german and ES forum one will find varying posts of some motors being nosiy out of the box.

It is most likely rust holding the crank/ chain wheel on esp as the cotter pin is out. Have to admit I hated cotter pins and still have the scars on my ankle from 50 years ago as a kid.
