    Pro Connect S Photos

They aren’t brilliant are they. I know 50 Cycles have found a way of fitting a BM LED rear light to the older Pro Connects so I might buy one off them. The front light is more of a problem so I believe. It all comes down to the way in which the 6 volts is delivered to the lights. Or more...

    Pro Connect S Photos

No, just pull out the bung in the bar end, push the mirror mount in the hole and tighten it up. I fitted a Cateye 300 to my Pro Connect and it works very well.

    Pro Connect S Photos

Thanks for the replies John and Flecc. This digresses off the thread title a bit, but I am interested in upgrading the fixed lights on my Pro C to LED. The present bulb versions are OK but they can be a bit unreliable and I often ride in the dark, so I think an LED upgrade would be worthwhile...

    Pro Connect S Photos

Hi John Are you able to say how the front light performs? I am interested to know how the power is supplied to the front light. As you probably know, on the standard Pro Connect the lighting power is delivered as a series of high voltage spikes with a mean value of about 6 volts, making...

    Magura Brakes

I have now fitted the Magura brakes. The retaining bolts on the Shimano V brakes were really difficult to remove. I think the bolts had corroded in the threads slightly. The sockets on the retaining bolts are quite shallow which doesn’t allow you to get much purchase on the bolt. This results in...

    Magura Brakes

My allen keys are the black ones. I know what you mean about the grey ones, they sometimes come with self assembly furniture and are very soft. I have also used an allen key that is set into the end of a Snapon 1/2" drive socket. It is the bolt that has rounded off. The head is made from a...

    Magura Brakes

Yes I am sure that they are 5 mm as well, but a very sloppy fit. Thanks for confirming my thoughts anyway. I have just knackered one of the heads. The socket wrench just turned in the head and rounded it out inside. It’s not a worn wrench either. I have tried several and all are a very loose...

    Magura Brakes

Can you remember the size of the socket wrench you used HarryB? I feel sure the 5mm is going to slip and chew up the head. All 4 bolts feel the same. Thanks Tom

    Magura Brakes

I have opted for the HS33 brakes and they arrived this morning. Fitting was going well until I have come to the removal of the existing Shimano V brakes. Item 1 here, the Link Fixing bolt is insanely tight. This is compounded by the fact that it is a hexagon socket head bolt which is...

    Halfords Cycle Scheme

Just a quick question on behalf of a friend. His company has just signed up to the Halfords’ Cycle Scheme. Will he be tied to buying his bike from Halfords, or is their scheme just an administrative arm of the company allowing you to buy from elsewhere, in the same way that you can with Cycle to...

    Magura Brakes

Brake boosters are the stiffening frames which span between the forks. Here is a picture of one.

    Magura Brakes

Yes, good point. For some reason I had only considered the HS33s. The HS11s are £30, cheaper and also come with the brake boosters. Thanks for that. Tom

    Magura Brakes

Just for information: I have sent an email to Chain Reaction Cycles regarding the length of the lever on the HS33 brakes and they have opened a box and measured them for me. The lever length is 85mm from the red adjuster to the tip (here). The Shimano levers fitted to my Pro Connect are 105mm...

    Can anyone help me decide?

Seeing as it was me who probably had the most to say about 50 Cycles and the issues regarding the wheels, I think it is only fair of me to say that the wheel issue in question was confined to the early Pro-Connects. The problem does not exist on new bikes. 50 Cycles / Derby Cycles have now...

    Magura Brakes

Thanks for the replies. Those clips would certainly make the installation much neater and do away with the need to route the pipe through the frame. I'll have to check on the lever lengths as that is a good point regarding reaching past the gear shifter. I'm quite tempted by this upgrade...

    Magura Brakes

Do they come ready assembled with fixed length hoses? I am just thinking about possible routes for installing the rear brake which may involve a longer than standard hose run, particularly if I route it through the frame. It would be ideal if they came with plenty of hose and the facility to...

    Magura Brakes

Are Magura hydraulic rim brakes (something like the HS11 or HS33) a worthwhile upgrade? I was just wondering what advantages they offer over cable operated V brakes. Thanks Tom

    Kalkhoff Pro Coonect Owners. Help.

Hi inangrimmett I have had my Pro Connect for about ten and a half months now and have covered over 3000 miles on it. At the time of purchase, I was a non-cyclist, and had the initial intention of using it for about 50% of my commuting to work. In reality, I have used it for over 90% of my...

My final word on Pro Connect wheels

Tim I wasn’t aware of this solution until I read about it today. Hopefully, and I can see no reason why not, this will provide me and the other 24 spoke Pro Connect Owners with a cost effective route to a maintainable wheel standard. A far as I am now concerned, 50 Cycles have potentially...
