    Brexit, for once some facts.

Actually 12.5 mph (20kph) will be the hinge point here, since the government say they will fall into line with EU law on them, rather than US law. Presumably they've forgotten everything they said about Brexit being about making our own laws. Sensibly, where and how? The public ignore the...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I think considering legalising these things has been a disaster, letting the cat out of the bag. Yesterday driving to Warlingham I saw two in quick succession that made me raise my eyebrows. The first was ridden by a young boy around 7 years, on the pavement alongside his briskly walking...

UNF (Unified National Fine), there's also UNC (Unified National Coarse), even UNEF (Extra Fine), all referring to the thread pitch, fine thread or coarse thread. The 1.25 is the thread pitch, in other words it's 1.25 mm linear from one thread turn to the next. The 12 mm is of course the...

Earlier in the week I posted the above. Wanting to leave tomorrow clear I did the weekend shop today in the same store and a little over half of the customers were not wearing masks. So their 100% voluntary masking didn't last long. .

5 mph limit isn't viable for two wheel balance and complete control over distance, especially on tiny scooter wheels. The Japanese, ever thorough, have ruled 12 kph ( 7.5 mph ) maximum on pavements for all types of bicycles where pavement use is permitted or compulsory and that seems to be safe...

    Throttles - eScooters v eBikes

No, they were legal then by omission. Seriously, read through on that link. It's a long post but if you read it through you'll understand the whole sorry story of why we are where we are. And not just through EU law which actually greatly improved our lot. .

After today's statement by the DfT I still disagree. They have said after this latest accident that at the end of the year they will collate all the information on e-scooters and then make a decision on whether to legalise them or not. They added that safety is paramount. That is the issue...

After another e-scooter accident, this time in a London park, a little 3 year old girl has been left with life changing injuries after an e-scooter ran into her. LINK .

    Throttles - eScooters v eBikes

Afraid not, as I said earlier throttles were illegal from 10th November 2003 and never at any point permitted in law. Agreed the manufacturers sold bikes with throttles after that date, but they were all illegal on the road as pedelecs. We protested many times about that and the police...

You're right, campervans will come, but it's too early yet. We've only just got a good range of vans and the odd people carriers arriving so manufacturers are struggling already with the changeover to e-power, while still making ICE equivalents. So all in good time. .

Only mad people do that, the traffic to the West Country in good weather is a nightmare. The authorities gave up trying to do anything to relieve it many years ago. Since then they content themselves with road signs saying "Delays Likely", then relax with a clear conscience having done their...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I meant tyre drag which is very real. Wind drag at up to 50 mph isn't much of a problem as you say. I maintain it simply isn't worth it. You still have to have a fair size battery in the car, the market has already proved that under 60 miles range is completely unacceptable. That's only...

    Throttles - eScooters v eBikes

You are over simplifying it. Only the change to 15 mph in 1983 was to get closer to the EU's 25 kph. Nothing else was, we kept to our 200 watts rather than the EU's 250 watts, and what's more we also followed by introducing a 14 years lower age limit that no other EU country has. And finally...

Too much loss from drag in towing, the weight saving not spectacular and 70 mph towing not allowed. After all, weight doesn't count at a constant speed, only when accelerating and climbing, and long runs tend to have plenty of constant speed running. .

That is happening, Honda have introduced a City car with a maximum range of just 137 miles, half that of the current market and charge to 80% in 31 minutes, yet still with snappy acceleration, 8.3 seconds 0 to 60 mph. Information Link And most other e-car makers are offering a small battery...

E-car news - Another of my intermittent reports on electric car information. When I first got my Nissan Leaf fully electric car in 2018 the indicated range at end of charge in warm weather was between 165 and 172 miles, compared with the WLTP mixed use official figure of 168 miles. Some may...

We are doing OK in the London Borough of Croydon. From highish levels here's been a drop of just over 33% in confirmed cases from week ending 8th July and week ending 15th July. So trending the right way. And our weather in the latest period is heat wave stuff, 24 to 30 degrees reached each...

    E-scooter rider kills cyclist

I believe pedelecs willl be completely unaffected at present. We are in the middle of the government's year long trial period on e-scooters to determine whether they should be legalised. All the gathered e-scooter accident evidence during the trial period will be examined solely in that...

    Throttles - eScooters v eBikes

Sorry Neal, but some corrections. The law was changed when parliament passed it on 6th April 2015 as posted above. The later date you've given was informal to allow by convention a minimum of six months for old stock clearance before full implementation at retail level. And the maximum assist...

    Throttles - eScooters v eBikes

The answer is that it wasn't ok for years, from 10th November 2003 onwards, throttles were always illegal on pedelecs. It's a long story, but that date was when we had to either choose to follow EU law and cancel our own law, or refuse before that date and ask for an opt out to go it alone...
