the waterproof cable for the XFC (has extra 3 wires for the torque sensor) may be different from the waterproof cable for the XFL (standard 9 wires), may need to order extra waterproof cable. The battery connectors are bullet type at the controller's end, I reckon you should stick with bullets...
I'd go for a conversion with 8-Fun BBS01
http://www.wooshbikes.co.uk/?cdkit
The crank drive BBS01 is excellent for climbing hills.
the kit costs £330 + battery.
A bottle 36V 10AH battery costs about £200 on ebay, 36V 15AH about £300.
it's the easiest kit to fit.
you've ridden both, go with your heart.
The Sirocco 2 has evolved a little since its introduction two years ago. The current Sirocco 2 has Promax adjustable stem (same as on the Velo XC crossbar), throttle on the left grip, 7-speed revoshift on the right grip and kevlar tyres, so may be slightly...
Derby Cycles produced 104,000 e-bikes last year, my guess Kalkhoff accounts for about half that production (50,000) so its market share in Germany is about 5-7% of the 400,000. Although tiny production figure in bicycles, Kalkhoff is still the most known brand in the e-bike world. In the UK, I...
something like these £6 mudguards will go on the Sport TS and Sport CD OK:

and for rear rack, this £10 piece goes on any bike...
yes, e-bikes are restricted by law to 25kph, 15.5mph. The more powerful ones are fitted with LCD that has speed sensor to limit their speed. It's still nice to have the LCD though because strong motors give you better acceleration.
Searching the pedelecs database between £600-£1000, commuting &...
There are at least 20 models from advertisers on the forum for under £1000.
You can shorten the list using the pedelecs database:

we can help you choose but we need to know a bit more about you and the area where you live:

if you need to change gear often, you should look at one with the NuVinci hub gear.
Shame that you don't like the Kalkhoffs, they have excellent track record for reliability though.
so is a friendly LBS. Electronics rarely ever fails nowadays but you need to fit puncture proof tyres as soon as if they don't come with already.
Routine maintenance for e-bikes is the same for non electrics. Tyres, brakes, lights, chain, gears etc. If you can take care of routine maintenance...
in terms of support for British jobs, buying Chinese bikes is perversely the most efficient way! design, support, service, additional assembly, inspection, packing, transport etc are done here and not from another EU country.
you will have to buy from Freego dealers. Mounting rails, lock, dimensions, input connector, output connector and its position are usually subtly different.
No, the Big Bear and CDs are fast, the Sirocco 2 has plain vanilla 8-Fun SWXK motor, about half the power of the Big Bear and two third the power of the Woosh crank drives. All the powerful bikes have LCD to limit their speed.
There are more than just hydraulic brakes and adjustable hydraulic...
The main difference is the quality of fork and brakes.
The Woosh Big Bear and the Woosh CDs are just as powerful and fast as any of the £2000 bikes you are likely to find. Woosh sell a lot of bikes to commuters so they put kevlar tyres on all their bikes except the Sport.
maintenance of a £2,000 bike is not much different from that of a £1,000 bike.
Consider this: Chinese bikes dominate the commuting bike market (possibly 5 to 1) and yet, fewer members who use their Chinese bikes for commuting reported problems than members with BH or KTM! if something on a...
