Availability of electric bike parts in the UK

the OP is looking for a living wage and I guess he is in his 40s, still a good 20 years to become a millionaire, so selling e-bikes is still a possibility. While I was looking for explanations why the UK e-bike market is so small, I came across some statistics: we buy 3.4 millions bikes a year...

Availability of electric bike parts in the UK

I think Chinese bikes suffer from the credibility gap. First time buyers generally can trust German engineering but not Chinese. Therefore, you (Oxygen) need to sell an awful lot more bikes than your competitors to offset that credibilty gap. The gap accounts easily for 20-30% premium on retail...

Recommend a bike for my missus

sportdirect quoted a range of 35 miles for 24V 8.5AH battery - that's 5.8WH per mile for power consumption. Small folders are a little less energy efficient, burning around 12-13WH/mile on the flat, 60WH/mile on 10% hills, I think the real range is more like 15 miles for 204WH.

Availability of electric bike parts in the UK

substantially untrue. 1. only a tiny number of us buy direct from China 2. cost isn't the only issue 3. we buy mainly new technology or difficult to find items 4. if compatibility issues arise, they are similar to buying from ebay sellers and just as messy to solve The real problem is the...

Can anyone recommend a good bike for hill climbing and distance

If you could commute 50 miles a day on a legal bike for a week, I'll donate £100 to any charity of your choice. Both the KTM and the Kalkhoff run out of battery after barely 10 miles. How can you suggest to the OP to use these bikes for his 50 miles commute? not only he has to have two...

Availability of electric bike parts in the UK

even retailing at twice the price of China, you can't make a profit selling only components, you would need a huge clientele to make it work. Firstly, you would need vast experience of e-kits to know what works with the clients' kits otherwise you'll be buried by bad stock and bad feedback...

    AVE bankrupt

Such a shame. AVE bikes were competitively priced, perhaps it's part of the problem. The other part is the rise of Chinese made bikes advertised in ebay.de - most Chinese bikes are sold quite cheaply by internet marketing like the recent adverts for the Mosso, causing further erosion. Perhaps...

    Good news - ETRA liquidated

the success of the Copenhagen wheel is astonishing: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/flykly/flykly-smart-wheel/posts/632830 They've raised 7 times more money in 40 days than their initial target of $100,000. Perhaps we'd need our own London wheel project.

    Good news - ETRA liquidated

quite so. e-bikes in the UK are not cheap transport. To me, the reason why not many LBSs want to sell e-bikes is much lesss because they think e-bikes are a cheat but more because they are such poor value compared with sub £1,000 bikes. The 8-Fun BBS01 shows how LBSs may be tempted to switch...

    Advice on Commuter ebike

leonzos, if you are cost conscious, forget the German bikes. Their running cost exceeds 50p a mile. Also, a big 500WH battery is very useful for the range and to reduce the number of charging cycles.

    Good news - ETRA liquidated

Chinese consumers like low cost products. Europeans won't put up with frequent maintenance, water ingress (in throttles), broken (frog) battery frame, crappy wiring, propstands falling off, dim lights, hard plastic grips, rubbish suspension etc. E-bikes manufacturers in recent years...
