Please help me before I go MAD

welcome to the forum. Your wife's needs require careful considerations because of her disability. How tall is she? how much does she weigh? is it hilly where you live? Another consideration is what happens if she is too tired to ride home? can you come and pick her up with the bike in the back...

wissy probably chose her (superior quality) bike for reliability. I am aware that the problem she experienced is a one off, however, as it's rare, she should be compensated for the aggro and the days that she could not use her bike. I reckon that each day is worth about 0.002 (0.2%) of the...

    Pro Connect Problems (Dying?)

hook up a DVM - ride up a hill, if the voltage sags, there is your answer, otherwise, suspect the controller. I reckon it's the controller.

    Best warranty

there are only two ways of getting good warranty: 1. buy (a KTMo_O) from local bike shop on your doorstep 2. buy direct from manufacturers (Ezee, Kudos, Rose, Woosh) Or master the dark art of bike maintenance yourself.

Is a 28 mile round commute too far?

do it to keep fit, don't do it to save money.

Is a 28 mile round commute too far?

it is a bit. You will be sitting on the saddle at least one hour there and one hour back. Doing it day in day out is hard on you, not on the bike, especially if you did not ride a lot recently. If you still want to go ahead with it, try get something fairly cheap to start with.

    London Electric Bike Company-cyber attack

unlikely. More likely cause: your LEBC website uses one of those authoring systems like Wordpress - they are constantly under attack by web bots - they need hardening or frequent updates.

BMZ make batteries for a lot of companies - Kalkhoff for example, and Bosch, but not Chinese.

    Best warranty

I believe only batteries made by BMZ have sleep mode. It's not that important unless you leave your bike unused for more than a month in winter. With Chinese batteries, it's best to ride the bike often, at least once a month.

Which bike for the heavier rider? Wisper, Oxygen, Woosh, RooDog?

it may be true for the very cheap (like Tesco e-bikes) or very expensive (like R & M) - in the middle of the pack, it's chaotic marketing to say the least. This is especially true among importers of Chinese bikes. Best check out the specs and reviews before you buy.

    What's your average speed ?

that depends where you ride. In middle of London, you'd be lucky to do better than 10mph.

    Yet another battery question

the new technology has not improved battery consumption. While Chinese bikes tend to have full power throttle, Bosch bikes have many programs to get the most out of you, your input is between 30%-50%, the battery supplies the rest.

the 5mph headwind is simply average for a windy day. Rains also increase consumption. You also need to keep 10% capacity in reserve to avoid shortening battery life. I reckon for commuting, you should allow 20WH per mile to be on the safe side. That works out at 480WH, either a 48V 10AH or 36V...

    Best warranty

you are right on most days, but consider the facts: on days like today, each mile on flat road will use 10WH at legal speed. If you have 5 mph headwind, this is equivalent to riding at 20mph, your battery consumption will double (yes, double, check ebike.ca chart) to 20WH per mile. 24 miles will...

    Best warranty

You will need a bike with 36V 15AH battery to have the range for windy days. If you live in a hilly area, a crank drive or a large motor (Ezee/BPM) is better than run of the mill bikes. Be mindful that second hand commuter bikes are difficult to resell, you would probably save a lot of money...

Powacycle: new charger or new battery?

Another way to diagnose the fault: open the case, locate the balance wire connector. Check the voltage between the two outside wires, you should read 24V if you have 24V battery, 37V if you have a 36V battery. These two wires are connected to the - termnal and the + terminal of your battery...
