    Brexit, for once some facts.

Clegg was at least formally DPM. But had DC suffered something that truly inacpacitated him, there is nothing that says Clegg would or should have taken over. DC might have allowed Clegg to appear to be in charge when DC was on holiday. I really can't image the coalition having allowed a...

Uncharted waters. (Or, as so many seem to actually type, unchartered waters. :) )

But being DPM does NOT automatically mean that person will take over in the case of some sort of incapacity. And if BJ were unable to decide in advance, would he still be able to decide?

But on what basis would it be Gove covering (as I said, temporarily or permanently)? Why not one of the others?

Wow, think how many bridges you could have failed to build for that! (Not quite two.) Or bought 900 secondhand, unusable water cannon. Or a contracted for a tenth of a fleet of rubbish buses.

Would Gove be the successor, temporary or otherwise, if BJ were unable to continue (e.g. illness)? He isn't deputy PM (no-one is, I think) and, even if he were, that would not make his succession automatic.

So there really is a brexit bonus.

You could be right, and I am well aware of some from the Lords in the past. But having no right to sit in either House? That would be another level. Completely impossible to question or in any way hold to account.

Do you remember when the Beast of Bolsover was excluded from the HoC after he accused George Osborne, the Shadow Chancellor, of having taken cocaine? (Ironies, he could legitimately have accused BJ of that. No idea if GO ever did.) It would be interesting to see if the PM could be excluded...

The most potent seems to be "just get on with it" - in various forms. I can imagine a condemned prisoner wishing they just get on with the execution. But that doesn't make post-execution acceptable as a result - just an inevitability. Reprieve would probably be far more welcome.

That is, I assume, one reason for being filmed with a bovine. Whatever BJ hasn't got, the bull has in plenty. Mind, when it comes to BS, BJ wins.

Just saw this - and I thought JLC had retired years ago! Exclusive: John le Carré's new novel set amid 'lunatic' Brexit intrigue Agent Running in the Field, due out next month, reflects ‘the divisions in Britain, and between Britain and Europe’. Just as intrigue over Brexit is expected to...

It is nothing to do with you, but crap scheduling. We actually like to watch our local news before switching over to Newsnight. Hence we almost always miss the first few minutes. I'd not be surprised to find quite a few making the same decision. (Mind, when I lived nearer London, we had a...

This morning I half-heard a piece about a celebration of Nigels. Seems it has slumped in popularity. Did I hear none since 2015 - or something like that. Now, it couldn't have anything to do with no-one being so cruel as to associate their new babe with the...
