Misleading advertising 250w power rating ebikes - not

Still the same mistake, these things are immaterial. Can the rider exceed the exemption limitations using available controls? If the answer is yes, the machine is not a legal pedelec since it does not qualify for the exemption. .

I disagree, with a tool is a structural modification, by using any hand controls provided it's clearly rider operation, changing it into a motor vehicle. Once again I disagree, it's long been perfectly clear that it's the person in charge of the vehicle on the road. For example someone in...

Which if under the rider's hand control is illegal. The DfT has been perfectly clear, if the rider can circumvent the legal limits specified in the exemption from being a motor vehicle, one of which is the 25kph assist limit, they should get the vehicle type approved as a motor vehicle. That's...

Yes, because that is clearly a physical modification to the structure using manual force as a tool. It's very different from using a vehicle control like a button or switch. .

Misleading advertising 250w power rating ebikes - not

I've always considered it resolved. If any tool is needed to make the change, it's a modification so the pedelec is legal if not modified. If the change can be done by the rider's hands while on the road, the pedelec is illegal at all times on the road since it doesn't qualify for exemption...

The specification he declares makes it doubly illegal, 1000 watts and maximum assist 30 kph. I assume the spec is from his supplier. .

In many cases they are relying on the fact that the authorities do nothing about such illegality since it's so small in scale. More important things to worry about etc., etc. .

Battery Wanted For Powabyke Milan 2

Hi Ian, it's not a Powabyke it's a Powacycle. Powacycle sell the upgraded lithium Milan 2 batteries but they are rather pricey: Scroll down on this page If, as I suspect, yours isn't the LPX lithium battery model you'll need to buy a charger as well. I don't have a source for the right type...

In most cases these are direct drive motors with dual switchable power levels. The sellers seem to assume that having the 250 watts option makes them legal. These are illegal to ride on the roads as pedelecs if the switching is under the rider's control, allowing the higher rating on the road...

    Replacement for Kalkhoff Agattu?

All bikes are in very short supply now thanks to the Covid-19 cycling boom, who'd have thought a virus would be more effective than all the usual advertising efforts! As per my answer to Swizz, the mid drive Dutch e-bikes are fine, just be wary of some of their weaker hub drive models and if...

    Replacement for Kalkhoff Agattu?

The mid drive ones are ok, introduced to help their export markets, it's some of their hub motors that one needs to be wary of since some are feeble. The Dutch Sparta that I mentioned first arrived here with 20NM torque. And that wasn't its worst feature by far back then! 40NM is ok, but when...

    Replacement for Kalkhoff Agattu?

Not so I'm afraid. There was one exception, the Panasonic crank motored Gazelle from 2007 for a while, but they soon dropped that and adopted a moderate front hub motor. Many Dutch built e-bikes have moderate power or weak hub motors which don't perform well in hilly areas like Danfoto's so...

bike without single point of failure

Agreed, on first seeing this thread my immediate thought was that the single point of failure in so many ways on all bikes is the rider. .

    Replacement for Kalkhoff Agattu?

Be wary of the Dutch makes like Batavus, Gazelle, Sparta, Koga etc, although very good in many ways, designed for their very flat country they often have poor hill climbing performance. It's why very few of them are seen here. .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

When will they ever learn, yet another third world war fighter and as unnecessary as all the previous ones from the USA and Europe. They just need to learn a lesson from the Russians with their SU32 and the way it rapidly dealt with the Syrian situation after months of futile action by the West...
