Big Bear uses the Bafang Bpm it is an excellant powerful hub motor, that is where it's strength lies power. It would be shame to tame one with a lesser controller (current wise).

Probably a dodgy key switch or a solder contact on said key switch, if you are bale to open the case and access the switch try resoldering the wires or simply apply heat to the solder contacts puddling the joints and then letting them set again (could be a dry or bad joint).

54.8v might be just calibration error of the meter, it shouldn't be an issue. But just in case drain the battery by 0.5v and see if everything works ok.

The 790 will need to be a lishui compatible model so a KM one, as I mentioned before 790's are available for 8FUN/Bafang , KT and other controller makes so it has to be a KM model to be compatibly programmed.
