    Brexit, for once some facts.

Back on March 12th I reported that I was suffering from a streaming nose and some associate symptoms and wondering if there was any Covid-19 connection or whether it was just a cold, albeit a bit extreme. Well it's back again since last night and even more extreme, the output from my nostrils...

Too late. Smoking only appeared to offer some protection against catching the viruses. Once a virus takes hold as 'flu in a regular smoker the outcome tends to be much worse. So it's gamble on the outcome. Perhaps vaping could be the best option, the smoking protection advantage without the...

It could result that vaping to get nicotine is protective, without the cancer risks of tar pollution from tobacco. .

Not that rare, smokers did often appear to have more protection against colds and flu. My own experiences reflect that, I started smoking at 11 years old and was a very heavy smoker up to my 50th year when I abruptly gave up the 60 plus a day habit. Through all those years I didn't know what a...

Wow, 13! If the Covid-19 death rate rises much more, we'll be influential. :D .

It makes sense, the enclosure within a vehicle and the noise of the vehicle in combination can easily reach or exceed the sound masking of headphones. Throw in the car radio or ICE and a driver can effectively be deaf to the outside word. .

And given his overt racism, I doubt it's escaped his notice how vulnerable to Covid-19 BAME citizens are. Two birds with one stone attitude perhaps, the economy and racial purity. .

In this connection it baffles me why anyone goes out cycling or even walking with noise reduction earphones/headphones. I wouldn't want to lose the early warning facility of my ears, I'm sure they wouldn't cycle or walk blindfolded. .

I know where you are coming from, my excellent Beyer headphones cost over £250 in 1985, not NR of course. The ONS inflation makes that around £763 today. .

Like you I was puzzled when I first heard of this but could think of nothing other than picking up the external sound inside the outer ear for compactness. I was never going to buy so didn't spend time on it. I've now been giving it more thought and another possibility occurs. We also pick up...

True for the external NR headphones like mine, but with these in ear buds they appear to use what external noise leaks into the ear. I'm surprised they work as well as is reported. .

True, but when away my car is with me and a previously used Canon SX260 compact sits in a centre console box always available and very competent at producing good photos. That gets charged two monthly like the phone that's also in the car. .

To explain for you both, noise reduction uses an inside microphone to check what you are hearing. It then compares that with the incoming signal, music or whatever, to deduce the difference, i.e. the unwelcome noise. It then adds that noise at it's same volume but in reverse phase, thus...

No Danidl, I'm not out of date, just rational. I have no need for more addresses or data since there's nothing a smartphone can do that my computer can't. I'm retired, home is for that and I don't wish to wander the streets like yet another zombie staring at a fiddly little screen doing...

Just for a very rare phone call 2G would be enough. I really do not have a use for a smartphone, unlike so many it seems I don't when out have a desperate need for some information I can get from my computer when back at home, and being retired I'm frequently enough back at home. And...

I'm not going to spend a hundred quid plus on a phone and ongoing charges as well on something I can't use. Like many others I'm taking a stand against the blackmail that dictates what we buy, such as parking meter charges that can only be paid by phone and the smart meter swindle that is...
