battery charging to maximise battery life

Batteries as a unit will use a BMS of some sort, either a generic one or like Bosch and others a slightly better type. BMS do go wrong now and then and bleed resistors can and do fail. The likes of Bosch within a closed system monitor charge cycles but your generic battery doesn't. Cells used in...

    Lifepo4 Battery health?

Lifepo4 (LFP) are regarded as one of the safest lithium chems, the voltage range is low with 3.2v nom voltage 2.8 - 3.6v is the typical usage range. Even charged to 3.6v it is known that some may discharge/balance out at 3.4v or there about. Severe self discharge is either down to bad cells...

I thought Leigh was a place name up north pronounced Lee/Lea or the nobs down this way pronounce it as Lye.

    Carrera Crossfire help

Crossfire uses the troublesome Suntour system, £600 is a waste of money for a bike in non running condition. Rear hub lateral doesn't sound good, I have replaced worn sealed bearings in my hub motors and serviced them but never had lateral play as you tell it. If it truly has only done 1100...

Kids eBike Conversion - simple battery solution needed

If you use a pair of buzzer alarms set them to 3.6v and they will beep when any one cell is low enough. 3.6v on ebikes is a common min cell voltage used for pack life, to prevent IR issues and a saggy cell or two. When I use them I find the voltage dives quite quick to lower voltages esp when...

    PAS sensor (KT-V12L) install issues

The fact the crank doesn't/can't tighten up is because it isn't able to locate on the Sq taper enough, have a look on ebay for thinner PAS disc/sensor of about 2.5mm - 3mm thick. Usually with Sq taper BB you have to either buy the next size up BB for the V12L. First off you need to measure the...

    Newbie

The Bosch won't work as a power source except on a Bosch motor. As regards to a1kw hub don't go there if you can't afford a good battery that can output 30 - 40 amps continuous.

Please help me troubleshoot motor or controller fail

Jammy or should it be B/stard ;), I think 'rotor' was a typo and should read motor. How on earth did you manage to snap the axle or do you think it may have been a casting defect ?

    36v nine pin compatibility

Hubs using a 9pin Julet use a standard pin sequence ( at least the ones I have tried ) of know brands, this includes Yose, Bafang, Aikema & Mxus. If your controller has the matching female 9 pin Julet it should be plug and play, test it works under PAS before you try the throttle.

New Hailong integrated controller not as good as I hoped

Sinewave utilises 5 or 6 small hall wires as well as the three thicker phase wires whereas Sq wave only utilises the three Phase wires. Both controller/motor combos sound fine.

Looking for a motor controller with speed limit option

Potentiometer controllers are old hat, all lcd options for kits have the adjustable speed setting. I can't see the point of you being worried about whether a lcd is legal as you are using an illegal 1kw hub.

Dalston fatal e-bike crash rider 'going too fast' - Court Case

He didn't need to chuck any dongle away as it was a D/D hub, dongles are for mid drive over riding. More likely he dragged the bike away to set the speed legal if it had an lcd fitted, then he could claim any speed was down to his peddling,.

battery charging to maximise battery life

It is dependant on the knowledge & skills of the user. Generally if the cells are good and matched then short charging with no balance they shouldn't wander but with mass produced batteries you can't always rely o this. There is no reason to not have a routine and charge to max 40.5 - 41v, and...

Kids eBike Conversion - simple battery solution needed

The 250w is a geared hub Kirstin so it will be ok, the 250w 36v is 320rpm so will be about 23mph unloaded speed. All the 48v ones are D/D.

Kids eBike Conversion - simple battery solution needed

Yes in series it will work as long as the SOC of the two packs are the same. You will of course know you can't charge them in series. Make 3.6v the min discharge for bike use, I would fit a fuse inline to the controller as lipo's can supply a lot of current.

Help! how to manualy discharge individual cell groups via bms block?

Yes there is a big range difference between low and high assist, but this is to be expected as the current draw is like chalk and cheese. Even with my slightly tired 29E's the difference between PAS 1 & 3 is about 50%.

battery charging to maximise battery life

Save the high assist to get up the hills and use lower assist for the flatter terrain, down hill turn assist to 0 or off. 36 - 40 miles will be the optimum range for flat terrain and low assist.

battery charging to maximise battery life

You will only get more mileage /range from the battery with low assist power, high/max assist will demand the battery provide constant current all the time and over time will be detrimental to the cells as well. Generic batteries contain not the best cells available because they are cheaper, if...
