    newbie . am I making a mistake?

It depends on the terrain you want to ride, hubs have different speeds (rpm ). For hills you need a low wound hub <230rpm, where as on fairly flat terrain you can use a faster wound hub though if you are going to stay legal a fast wound hub isn't necessary.

What current does the controller draw and also what size amp fuses in the batteries ?

For your bike and the speed you want you need a faster geared hub so 330rpm for about 45km/m which is ideal for flat terrain some will advocate you use a (D/D) Direct Drive hub but these are very heavy and on the front handling would be even heavier. The smart money is to buy a hub with the...

Belt or chain, derailleur or hub?

I have overcome using cheaper sprung forks on my 700c tone bike by using the wider comfortable Geoff bars along with nice GP2 bar ends, the change of hand position and the lighter front end makes for a better ride.

Moton is derogatory term for motorist, when they are out of the car they may revert to being a Moron.

    Yamaha Syncdrive Sport Motor Drag

When climbing torque = power so possibly you are reaching max rpm & current for the motors voltage and bemf comes into play, once the rpm is backed off bemf is then not an issue. Also too high a gear selection may be stalling the motor as it ask's for more current at too low an rpm, this may...

    Bosch active line plus thoughts

bemf only affects a motor at rpm/V saturation point and not when there is no assist power. The drag felt is not real drag but the motor reduction gearing and the added motor weight compared to a non powered bike.

Advice wanted for DIY Welsh commuter (Trek FX conversion?)

Magura HDR = HS11 or 33 model, I have the 33 on both Swizzbee's. Yes getting adjustment perfect is a bit of a pain but they do work. the advantage is no cable stretch. Rims brakes are an ideal rear brake as the rear brake only accounts for about 20% or so of the braking affect when used...

    Help! battery needs repair

Mex a typo, I think you meant 58.8 not 48.8v. For 14s you need at least I would say a Meanwell HLG - 120h - 54A, the A is important as this designates the model as having current & voltage adjustment. For this model it is max 2.5a in put current and all A models have +/- 10% voltage adjustment...

    The Law

The research Flecc mentions I have seen and read some of these before and for what ever reason the rationale of a driver changes as they think a rider is safer, unfortunately for the rider they are less safe because of the Moton's thinking.

I suspect the 4 y/o little girl was wearing a badly fitted helmet and maybe why she was killed by it strangling her up in the tree, a very sad incident and a silly waste of a young life.

You have done nothing wrong the hub motor has an ultimate speed, it is dependant on the what the rpm is wound for. I suspect it is less then 230 -250rpm. On the hub there should be a code marked in between brackets, it might be marked (13), (14) or another code this will tell us the rpm. As the...

    The Law

Being clipped in adds an extra element of danger, had you had normal flats then the situation would not have arisen. It is all about risk and in your case wearing a helmet was sensible. Adventure riding I wear one though often in very hot conditions I remove it simply too cool my head to...

    newbie . am I making a mistake?

If that is the case Darby cycles /Kalkhoff failed badly with the impulse drive then, as has been noted on here and the German pedelecs forum the drive is very short on reliability. 1400 miles seems to be a common failure rate for regularly used bikes. The Suntour electronics system also not...

    The Law

I agree Flecc if a vehicle hits you it will not stop injury except maybe a little head bump, the rest of your body it doesn't protect. At speed you will be killed and is the likely hood and in London likely pulverised by a lorry. A helmet in my view will help in protecting against objects like...

    The Law

Schumacher had a mounted camera on his helmet, had he not done so then the camera mount wouldn't have penetrated in to his brain. Moton's in the most part I believe see extra safety like helmets as an excuse that the rider is better protected, in my view a total myth. They may use it as an...

    Speed limiting

In that case then no matter what you do the bike and hub is illegal, in nearly all of Europe it will not be classed as a pedelec. The above statement contrasts very differently to the one in the OP. Over here in London last year the MET removed/confiscated 100 such vehicles off the roads as...

    newbie . am I making a mistake?

Convert a decent new bike or a really good used bike, select one that doesn't utilise thru axles. There is a good choice of lightweight or heavy weight hubs on the market as well as various mid drive kits and hub complete kits. Hubs you can choose from front or rear and various rpm windings to...

    newbie . am I making a mistake?

Not one I would touch one with the Suntour system mainly because apart from Halfrauds, bike spare late on can't be sourced. Any ebike should have a life of a lot more then when warranty runs out after two or three years. Though it doesn't mean later on you can't rip out the electronics and...

    Speed limiting

In #1 you said If the motor can't reach 25km/h by itself then surely it can't be assisting over 25km/h and you are solely powering the bike along over this speed. If the motor is using power you should be able to hear or feel when it cuts the power, on level terrain you will feel the bike...
