Genius Bar caught ripping customer off ON CAMERA by CBC News

Not at all e-bike centric. It's based on their overpricing of certain rather poor products, including buying in and rebranding some that have been very poor indeed. Ranging from an electric screwdriver to a fridge. They aren't alone in this in Germany, cashing in on Germany's reputation for...

    Extra Battery Dilemma.

I'd say second battery, but then keep both in use by rotation even when not using the camper to keep both in good equal condition. .

Genius Bar caught ripping customer off ON CAMERA by CBC News

No matter what laws are passed we can still be caught out. The best way is to protect ourselves with simple rules: Don't be an early adopter, let others learn the lessons for you. Watch the practices of well known companies and avoid as necessary. For example, I would never at any time buy...

Looking for step through bike for my wife?

The battery life tends to be related to price and quality. It's not uncommon for them to fail by two years, while some of the best have been lasting five years or more. But the battery price differences do even that out a bit, ranging from around £250 to three times that. Regular use is...

Looking for step through bike for my wife?

I'd say avoid the RC Toyworld bike, it uses a special in-frame battery that might not be available when you need a replacement, something that often happens with such bikes. The Cyclotricity looks good value and will meet your undemanding needs ok. .

Ongoing reliability of Kalkhoff/Focus Impulse 2 motors

The Kalkhoff bikes are fine, just make sure you buy one with a decent motor. It's the Daum designed and made motor which they label as Impulse or Evo which is the trouble and should be avoided. Those over the years with various other motors from Panasonic through to the current Bosch have...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Never truer words spoken. The will of the people had little to do with it, it was the manipulation of the people, thanks to our political system and complicit press. .

Bosch! The good, the bad and the ugly!

I noted that but wasn't misreading. What I meant is that it doesn't trap Bosch into claiming 500 Wh each, just like the use of "approx" later keeps their claims vague. .

    Freego Hawk crossbar

Pulling in is less risky since no risk of breaking frame joint welds, but 35 mm is rather a lot and could leave the dropouts not at a right angle to the spindle. Ideally pull in a bit and add a couple of spacers, one each side or wherever best to centralise the wheel. .

Bosch! The good, the bad and the ugly!

It seems they cop out of committing themselves Eddie. On their battery page they make these two references: "The combination of two Bosch batteries delivers up to 1,000 Watt hours." Note the "up to" here and approx. below. Then under Technical Details for their four battery types they say...

    Freego Hawk crossbar

The rear frame on bikes with full size wheels can safely be stretched by 25 mm or so. I even do that to change tubes or tyres without taking a wheel out:

Bosch! The good, the bad and the ugly!

See Eddie's reply and reread my post. To repeat, there is no such thing as a fixed capacity, it depends entirely on the discharge rate, which is a variable of course. In my experience manufacturers quote the most favourable figure, which is the lowest discharge rate one and what we rarely...

Bosch! The good, the bad and the ugly!

Not battery Watts, the measurement is in Watt/hours The same is true of all batteries, regardless of make, Bosch being no different. That is because there is no such thing as a definite Wh rating since that depends entirely on the consumption rate. I can illustrate this best by quoting a test...

If you happen to hear a chainsaw when you are out on your bike...

I know it was a joke and responded likewise. However, that could easily have been seen as dodgy when ambling along at a moderate speed, given how much noise the guy was making with the chainsaw and the trunk visibly leaning outwards. Cutting any large tree trunk at the side of an open road is...
