New Legal Speed Limit: What should it be?

But those higher speeds on roads cannot happen without bureaucracy you wouldn't welcome. See this post And this post Is all that hassle really what you want? .

New Legal Speed Limit: What should it be?

Best tell the DfT then, they made the tolerance ruling. Being from the DfT who create the law in this area means it is not an unofficial guideline, it's as official as a guideline can ever get. .

    Powered Bike Trailer

They have been marketed, Tony Castles at Currie Electrodrive here sold one long ago with one of the Currie hub side-drive motors on one of its two wheels. I believe he also experimented with a hitch that controlled the power to make it pedelec control so more legal, but that was never offered...

New Legal Speed Limit: What should it be?

It's not just a matter of logic, the existence of the motorcycling classes ties their hands. For example: The L1e-A (low powered moped) class is for bicycles with up to 1000 watts rating but still limited to 15.5 mph. They have to be registered, number plated, VED'd and insured and riders...

New Legal Speed Limit: What should it be?

Theres no way they will take on this responsibility and some have already made that clear. And here's a real world example of how hard pressed local authorities are. My council no longer enforces even the most blatant parking infringements, despite the possible income from that. That even...

New Legal Speed Limit: What should it be?

Techically correct, but I find your position on this utterly ridiculous and very unhelpful. We all know the letter of this law, it appears everywhere in e-biking even to the extent that those who haven't bought yet are asking in here what to is best to buy for derestricting. Having given good...

Look closer, that's trade in goods but doesn't include Services which are the vital part for us. Extract: A surplus of £28 billion on trade in services was outweighed by a deficit of -£95 billion on trade in goods. Take away that £28 billions from services. Not so good now is it?

New Legal Speed Limit: What should it be?

Yes, all that has been posted in here at the time of those law changes, 6th April 2015. In fact the DfT have tried to make throttles legal here, here's the extract from their legal advice: Power assistance - "Twist and Go" Because of the particular benefits for elderly and disabled users...

New Legal Speed Limit: What should it be?

Not true for many of us Tim, including this ex motorcyclist, as I posted earlier it's not the actual speed that's the issue. It's what will come with it: See this post Given the existing motor vehicle classes, there is no way we'll get higher assist speed without more very unwelcome bureacracy. .

New Legal Speed Limit: What should it be?

Peter, ex Velovision and Electric Bike magazines editor, joined the BA after the position was cleared up with the DfT so is perhaps not up to speed it seems. The DfT advice is quite clear that the 10% applies. Whether anyone want to take advantage of that is up to them, but since some...

New Legal Speed Limit: What should it be?

Pedelec law bars throttles that act without pedalling, so there cannot be a separate speed limit for that. In law an e-bike that has an independent acting throttle is a motor vehicle that has to be type approved and registered according to it's speed and power class, usually L1e-A (low powered...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

A lot more than you perhaps think. Those who like the EU membership don't necessarily post in the Brexit thread. Take the many members past and present who spend lots of time on the continent. Many even have properties and/or relatives there, and they all enjoy the freedom of movement and the...

An electric bike easily modified by entering a code

I can't name specific models Steve since it's not an area I'm personally interested in, but from the posted information in here it's a high proportion of the models with LCDs. How much the speed can be varied isn't consistent, some much less than others it seems. The others are usually 250 watt...

New Legal Speed Limit: What should it be?

But not necessarily a modification, some pedelecs supplied as legal are capable of that 17 mph, taking advantage of the tolerance. That includes a number of Kalkhoff models as some owner members confirm. Perhaps also see my post above about the practical situation, which is what matters. .

New Legal Speed Limit: What should it be?

Why not read what I posted? I am not missing the point since I posted this: "No I'm not. I'm repeating a statement given by the DfT in response to that query. It doesn't change the law," Therefore acknowledging the law still stands. But the DfT stands by its statements. For example I have a...
