    Running in

OK so I am off looking for a heat gun. It hasn't budged a bit... I have lost several litres of sweat even without the heat gun...

Which motor/kit to get? Bafang CST or Xiongda? 36V or 48V?

Is it a sine wave or a square wave controller? Mine is sine wave and it is strong and smooth at full power.

    Oxydrive kits

I have a zero assistance level. I could in your hill example switch to zero assistance on the crest of the hill. In fact I do that when I am in "super battery economy" mode and trying to go the furthest possible. So instead of using a brake cut off switch I am just using the mode switch to do...

    Oxydrive kits

If you are in a low assistance level you can downshift without having to cut the power. I use the assitance level button to turn down the power rather than brake while pedalling which is against nature to me - I stop pedalling when I touch the brake levers by instinct and I am getting on too so...

You mean this one? With a kit on it? Wheel is aluminium so a bit of black paint xould be needed.

I think that brake cutoffs are overkill (pun intended) if you are not using a throttle. And PAS is so good I really don't see why anyone would need a throttle anyway. I have yet to find myself in a situation where I thought "hey a throttle would be handy here"... :D

    Running in

OK thanks. So what I understand is: 1. unscrew the cover on the freewheel side 2. pull out the core of the motor (which is hard because of the magnets) Then I have access to the clutch and gears. Correct?

    Best buy for around £500

A 99.95€ Decathlon Kemel (comes in his or hers frames) with a cheap front wheel kit. Chuck the tyres, no fun fixing a flat when you are having fun... Easily under your budget with a bike frame the professional thieves know has no resale value.

    Running in

I am up to about 300 km over the last couple of weeks and have developed some strange noises. So went looking for answers: 1. Spokes - I had three very loose spokes, now they are tightened less noise! 2. BB - when the bearing gets hot it moans and groans I knew that it wasn't going to last very...

Help me understand my new ebike

Oh dear more legal issues... :( French road code requires a yellow reflector in each wheel for night time riding, white tyre reflector is not enough. Of course the lycras don't have reflectors which they get away with by not going out at night. Yes my wheel is true, that rim is one of the...

Help me understand my new ebike

Yeah you may be right I do have a big reflector in the wheel. My impression was that the vibrations were coming from the road surface which has water drainage rivulets at that spot on the hill but wheel balance can not be ruled out.

Smog and breathing issues - what protection to use?

Doesn't come in white, :( with a Uvex helmet you could get a nice storm trooper look going. A fake laser rifle strapped to the back and trucks would stay well clear... Seriously as a pollen allergic bike rider I understand your problem Jonathan. In my case it is a mask for eye protection which...

Help me understand my new ebike

I am very happy with the Michelin 26" x 1.75" semi-slick City tyres that I mounted before converting the bike. I was agreeably surprised by the lack of rolling resistance when it was still a push bike and with the motor they are just as good. I have no issues in the wet either they are nice and...

Ciclotek "Road legal" Platinum Sine Wave rear motor kit first impressions

Peeling varnish and all? The frame lock was the hardest thing to mount! As a practical way of locking the bike goes it is great. I have the 140 cm plug in chain so that I can attach the bike to city furniture as well. The original cable lock will be used to attach the front wheel to the...

Ciclotek "Road legal" Platinum Sine Wave rear motor kit first impressions

Second charge - 75 km most in level 5 assistance mode really thrashing it. Went to Spanish Basque Country twice and did some round town errands. New top speed free wheeling downhill 58.4 km/h before the vibrations in the front fork became scary enough to make me brake... Consistent 27-28...

Benellie - with twist shift power levels and battery management

Twist Shift LED/LCD Display Benelli has patented a new system for changing the power assistance level on its eBikes. Due to the higher speeds of eBikes it is safer to keep your hands on the handlebars, which sounds obvious, but the Benelli twist shift is the solution. Simply twist the integrated...

    Legality of power ratings

What brand of rim brakes are you using? I am guessing not cheap no name made in China ones. Stopping power of my rear brake was multiplied by two by changing the pads. I replaced the original pads that looked like new with ones that are actually wearing out!

Ghostly bike! Will a moving e-bike balance without a rider?

I used to be the young smart alec who would stop at the lights and balance the bike till green with my feet strapped in. It can be done with training and a reasonable sense of balance (impossible on the way home from the pub...).
