    Brexit, for once some facts.

And it's globalisation. How can that be controlled when law making is national, not global? .

    Update on N.I. e-bike regs.

Thanks Ted, but not to worry. I know the information is appreciated and those of us who help in such forums don't do it to be praised. In the Natural History Museum forum where I mainly answer questions on arthropod species identities like this and this, the answers are often not even...

    Update on N.I. e-bike regs.

No objections whatsoever Ted, and I'm happy to answer any questions in this connection or help with advice. Be aware that the authorities have already objected that this order concerns the Type Approval regulation, not one of usage, so that type approval law doesn't apply for permission to use...

    Update on N.I. e-bike regs.

It's the "as may be so prescribed" that is the problem. The prescribing for use is a national matter, as in the UK EAPC regulations which are not in force in N.I. .

    Update on N.I. e-bike regs.

Our DVLA were in direct contravention of the order for nearly 12 years from 10th November 2003 to 6th April 2015 since they did not amend or remove our conflicting EAPC regulation details until the latter date. I can't say though if there are any provisions where the "direct effect" applies to...

    Update on N.I. e-bike regs.

I thought it might be helpful to post here the full details of the original mandatory order that accompanied the introduction of the EU's pedelec laws into all member states in 2003. Note in the list of states that Northern Ireland is specifically included in this mandatory order. Also note...

    Imposing Speed Limits

Do average speed zones really exist, and if they do, are they really policed? I can't remember how many times in the early hours when the motorway was fairly empty that it was cruised at a steady 95 to 100 mph through the long M3 average speed zone. .

    Northern Ireland EAPC status.

I don't know of another pedelec one, but the rule throughout the whole of the UK is that any uninsured vehicle found in use is automatically subject to confiscation. Subsequent release is normally on presentation of proof of insurance. .

    Imposing Speed Limits

That would be a luxury. The borough I live in is one of London's two largest, with a population larger than most UK towns and cities. We now have a near universal 20 mph limit. The few through roads are mostly 30 mph limited but every exit from them is graced with 20 signs, a forest of...

    Are throttles legal or not?

Sorry but I have to challenge some of what has been said above, I believe it is possible for the police to successfully prosecute someone for using a pedelec with a throttle that can act independently of pedalling. The guidance is clearly that any such pedelec made or supplied after 1st January...

    Definitely not for commuting

They say so, the troublesome ones were the Impulse 2 version. There have been a couple of Evo failures, but considering the very large numbers sold in Germany and elswhere that might not mean much. Every product suffers the odd fault. There is now a Kalkhoff UK base which is reassuring. .

Yes, Flecc from Flecchia (Italian) French is Flecher Spanish is Flecha English is Arrowsmith, or Fletcher which is an anglicised version of the Old French or Norman-French Flecher. That would probably be where the TV series Porridge got the first name of Norman Stanley Fletcher from for...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Reminds me of when I was in the army long ago. On learning of where I was from squaddies from smaller places would often say, "Oh you're from London, do you know so and so?" They never seemed to realise that the chance of my knowing a particular person out of some 8 millions was vanishingly...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

But I did post "here", in other words in Britain where we did largely behave to high standards. I deliberately included the offensive words Dago and Spic to emphasise the point you also make, that our attitude and behaviour towards other peoples was very different. And that was often not very...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I'm not married but some partners have tried nagging me at times in the past. I've always shut them up by saying, "Look, if I wanted to be nagged I'd have got married!". .

Why bother these days when a drone can just take out a position? Before muskets and bayonets! My foreign surname means Arrowsmith, the arrows we made were our contribution to the arms race. ;) .

NATO Forces Test Bultaco Electric Bikes for Fast Response Applications

Nothing that a small four stroke off-roader couldn't do. Getting to sniper range wouldn't be stealthy enough to avoid detection, a bike rider is a pretty obvious prominent target. I think the charging or battery change difficulties in operational conditions would be severe, we aren't even very...
