A rare piece of history - Swizzbee

My one has obviously had a prior service/operational issue as explained by the 5/6mm bearing play in the hub, which over time has exasperated any issue with wear to internal/operating hub surfaces. Hopefully I have got on top of my Swizzbee's issues now and if todays 14 mile ride is anything to...

Problem with my bike controller and hall sensors

Halls should see about 5v though depends how you are testing. Using the link below check the how to hall test pdf and if is all ok, move on to the blown mosfet test as this is more likely to be your problem. http://www.ebikes.ca/learn/troubleshooting.html Let us know your findings.

    Simple ebike kit

Horses for courses, they have there uses if you only want occasional assist on inclines or add to lightweight bike. A 1.5kg battery for approx. 15 - 25 miles worth of assist using very good cells isn't a bad thing for some. Power is limited but not every one wants high power and heavy bikes...

    Simple ebike kit

A friction drive design of a few years ago, a few have initiated the same principle in their design over the last few years and mostly failed I think. The add is 3 years old, simple but not cheap if you don't back it on a kick starter. Cost is circa 750 euros. The latest one to start marketing...

    holy **

Yodel  :(, when it comes to home delivery they are SHE-ITE. They don't give a monkeys f**k about the parcel value or contents, just bung emby the door or close and sign the pda themselves with a scribble.

Torque and gears and design limits. How to calculate ?

I not 100% but even with power drive it is down to gearing that determines any failure 42 /16 combo is well under gearing stress level, 2.1 is recommended so 42/21 would work. http://www.gear-calculator.com/ But doesn't allow for motor power. Over to you AK :).

Colour of phase and hall sensor wires. Is it standard?

BPM axle cable exits through the end of the axle via elongated slot on rhs. Hub isn't a two piece screw affair it is mainly one piece with rhs screw on plate which makes for dead easy access for future regreasing or bearing replacement. Show us a pic of your controller and connectors then we...

A rare piece of history - Swizzbee

Both Swizzbee's were suppied via Vita Electric in London, yet there are difference's between two bikes of a very similar age. One has a boost button. Differing Gates drive sprocket colour. Battery box decals only on one bike. Mine has a Sigma cycle computer, could be OEM fitted ? Battery power...

A rare piece of history - Swizzbee

Might be just bad components or bad luck. Rear rim is not original. Front brake not original. Light filament failed. The mechanical issues might be that I am using it on too rough trails and the old bumpy/lumpy railway lines are not good for the intended use, maybe future riding will have to be...

A rare piece of history - Swizzbee

The bike previously lived on the South coast so some minor corrosion/pitting here and there, the filament for the rear light that runs through SKS mudguard must be corroded or has a break in it as the rear light didn't work. However I ran some fine silicone wire on the under side of the mudguard...

A rare piece of history - Swizzbee

My one isn't overly high miles has about 1500 on the odo. On the old tired li-poly 10ah, 9 - 15 miles was the range but now have 28.4ah of li-on cells giving about 70 -80 amps. I have done a few 65-70 miles runs usually down to Brighton and Shoreham and back, though do try and use no assist if...

I have been in contact with John aka Electrifly to arrange a viewing in the next couple of weeks, could be looking at a brace of Swizzbee's at home.

Colour of phase and hall sensor wires. Is it standard?

Hub motor wise you can use any front hub, the important bit is getting one with correct winding speed. Ideally 36v 201rpm is good for 15 - 18mph and a Bafang bpm (Big Powerful Motor) would be ideal, with heaps of torque. Hub only have it rebuilt in to your existing rim, buying the hub only will...

A rare piece of history - Swizzbee

Looking fantastic John, my one is of the same age and practically identical nearly. Look like NiCad cells in the battery am I right. 1.Mine doesn't have the over drive. 2. The gates drive sprocket is anodised red. 3 . Was powered by li -polymer pouch cells.

Colour of phase and hall sensor wires. Is it standard?

Theoretically yes, 36v x controller amps = xxx watts. The main effect though is the motor will run at 33% less speed and torque, heat may be another issue running at a lower speed.

Best ways to charge and maintain battery life

Tonkin along in high assist will draw max amps and doubt that the cells employed inside the battery are really up to it. My old Oxydrive batteries used Samsung cells but only the very poor mediocre 22 & 26F 4.4/5.2a cells, they lasted for about 18months each before I saw capacity reduced by a...

Kirstin you only need the extra code if you input the 3 digit security code wrongly 10 times so no leaving it where someone can tinker with it. Disconnecting the battery is fine it won't cause it to brick. A new battery will need to be 60 - 80a rated at least as the swizzbee can draw some...

Colour of phase and hall sensor wires. Is it standard?

Some Sinewave controllers will work with halls connected or not, but one failing is in between which they can't deal with. The difference in running is the noise sinewave sends a more fluid signal which leads to a quieter running system, the noise though most assume is the motor is actually...
