    Brexit, for once some facts.

Not always. Marshall Tito was the best thing for the Balkans, very much better than what followed with democracy. .

Yes, the DfT have confirmed that the usual 10% tolerance applies, so up to 17 mph power assistance is ok. .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

We need a strong dictator to put things right. Just look how Comrade Vladimir in just 20 years turned Russia from a broken down post USSR mess with despairing citizens into a successful nation with the people having pride in their country. Of course he gave a kick up the arse to the...

Ah ha! So you were trying to find a dodge around the law after all. Our suspicions were right. :D The cadence system that Tommie mentioned only requires twirling the pedals without putting in any effort, basically simulating pedalling to look like compliance. But power still cuts when pedal...

Some of us are cautious because so many come in with the similar question and try to manoeuvre an admission that throttles are ok when they aren't. Your inquiry initially looked like that again. As I posted earlier, the power phase down condition cannot be met with a continuous acting...

    Shaft drive Ebikes?

My gear comparator only goes to 10 sprockets, but I've used that on a typical 10 to 50 teeth 12 speed cassette using only the 10 to 36 teeth 10 sprockets. The front rings I've made 16 and 18 teeth and used a 700c for the gear inches. As you can check below, three of the pairings between using...

    Shaft drive Ebikes?

No you haven't. :D Enter your sprocket sets into a gear comparator and you'll find that many of your front to rear pairings are duplications, sometimes exact, sometimes so close that they can't be thought of as separate. True of all derailleurs as they increasingly exceed 15 nominal gears. .

No turn around, we've known the law very well as it's developed and as I've shown with dates and details. In my own case I've watched the law relating to assisted bikes since joining the trade in 1950. What you were asking about was confusing since it was a mixture of the law on construction...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I don't know why Boris bothered. Many would say the EU is the Fourth Reich, seeing it as Germany running the show. .

Looking legal is what matters. One of the most respected names in e-bike kits, Heinzmann, for years supplied the identical kit as 200 watts, 400 watts and 700 watts in three different markets of the world to suit their laws. Among the users were government departments, for example the German...

    Should I bother with registration?

The judge made clear in Charlie Alliston's case that the bike illegality made the difference. If his bike had been legal he wouldn't be in prison now. .

That was stated to be subject to them being type approved in an new class of type approval so they would conform with EU regulations. We are still awaiting that, and with Brexit it may never happen. .

    Should I bother with registration?

The point is the risk you take by gambling. You are almost certain to get away with it, but could end up like very recent cyclist Charlie Alliston who accidentally killed someone when on an illegal bike. He's currently in prison serving a one and a half year sentence. .

    Should I bother with registration?

For many years our UK legal power limit was 200 watts, but more recently 250 watts to align with Europe. The law has been widely ignored, but that comes at a risk of prosecution. In the event of an accident in which someone is seriously hurt or killed, the consequences could be very serious. .

    Shaft drive Ebikes?

Well done John, he's was the only one right. We do not have ebikes, they are illegal. We have electric Assist bikes. I've often had a rant in here about this, I wish dealers and other would always say electric assist. That would put an end to the stream of people asking for a bike that...

    Shimano Nexus7 vs 8 speed

The 8 is more efficient than the 7 speed, but that isn't by a big factor and with power assistance on an e-bike it scarcely matters. I didn't feel disadvantaged by the 7 speed when I reviewed the first Kalkhoff imported here in my hilly North Downs area over the period of a week. .

Yes, and for the first reason I've often specified that it's a fully acting/freely acting throttle that's not allowed. In fact in my second reply to you on this link I posted "free acting" to make it clear. Technically the second two of your statements is incomplete for compliance with the...
