how about this comment in the Guardian: "The EU is a market, not a mutual support system. Instead of redistributing growth to succour laggards it punishes them, as it has Greece. It drains us and proscribes the techniques of nurture by state aid, protectionism and devaluation by which Germany...

agreed. People should pay attention to what Mr Juncker said, that is we are going to manage divergence. We start with 100% alignment, if we diverge, the deal must reflect that in some way. So Keir Starmer is correct, we must lockstep with the EU standards if we are going to have a better deal...

Davis was correct in the interview, much more accurate in his use of words than Mr Marr. The tool of the trade for politicians is constructive ambiguity, relying on the public misunderstand what they actually said. He did not use the word 'impact assessments' before being cornered by the HOC...

Gove is substantially correct. The transition period should end December 2021, next GE is May/June 22. We could have the first deal with the USA or India or Australia or NZ done before the GE. Then the issue of convergence may come to the fore.

I think you read too much into the word 'convergence'. It should be read as the UK agrees not racing to the bottom. The world economy in 10 year time will be much different, China will be top, ASEAN second, USA third, then EU27. We may still align to EU regulations on goods but possibly less on...

that seat at the table costs about half of our current net contribution plus that bill of £40 billions. Best to pay half just for access, we don't have much to say on EU integration aims anyway.

the race to the bottom: when you have regulatory divergence. hard brexiters would like regulatory divergence. For example, the hard brexiters prefer turning the UK into some kind of low regulation tax haven for mutinationals, family trusts and the likes while the EU looks for ways of taxing them...

I read the publication from top to bottom this morning thanks to the link that shemozzle provided and my understanding of it is quite different. Firstly, the agreements contained in the paper are subject to successful negotiation, a lot of uncertainties would have been removed by then and...

EBMA files an anti dumping complaint on chinese e-bikes.

innovation can only come about if we do a lot more than PDI the bikes made in China. that's why a modest anti dumping duty would restore a small advantage for local producers. I have been thinking of assembling e-bikes here in Southend for years but the extra cost (about £75 per bike) does not...

£18,000 per annum is less than £10/h. Where you are, the housing cost is even higher than Southend. I reckon you'd need to pay £19k-£20k minimum to have any chance of retaining a good guy, otherwise, he'll walk within months.
