Are good times just around the corner? It seems they may be!

There's a lot of truth in that. When I started motorcycling consumer crash helmets hadn't been invented, it was either bare headed or a leather flying helmet (historic, airliner pilots don't seem to wear them). So for some 23 years I rode motorbikes bare headed, but knowing how vulnerable I...

eBikes Banned in New York City

Thanks, yes I understand that, but that law may have to be changed in respect of e-car sound in the interests of overall safety. i.c.vehicles make a noise between those hours of course, so the equivalent from an e-car should be acceptable. Trouble with the switch is that every Leaf I've come...

Probably one of those silly baseless rumours. Perhaps bikes with full suspension get washed because the dirt doesn't get shaken off riding over potholes. .

Indeed, some of his irrational conclusions have astonished me. It's almost as if his English comes from a dictionary of entirely different and flexible meanings. .

Best advice I'd give for commuting is fit adequate mudguards and a mud flap on the front mudguard. Then you won't have to wash that mud off. .

eBikes Banned in New York City

For pedestrian safety most of then have a default sound from a speaker under the bonnet when in motion at town speeds. The popular Nissan Leaf has for example, but there is a switch on the dash which the driver can use to turn it off. There may have to be legislation to make such switches...

eBikes Banned in New York City

E-bikes have always been illegal in New York state and city, but enforcement has been light touch for those who ride sensibly. One of our members, Rob NYC, commuted for years in New York City on an Ezee Quando and one of the USA's two largest and most successful e-bike dealers, Nycewheels, is...

    Ilkley Cycles Closing Down

Same here, as a kid I remember taking the accumulator weekly to a shop for charging to ensure the wireless set (not radio in those days!) was working for another week. My very first portable radio was a valve and transistor hybrid using a 67 volt HT battery. .

I fully agree under present circumstances, but there's other ways when acting as a community. For example, I had a spell at the village of Widdecombe on the Moor in WW2, when there was virtually no car use. Once a week on a Wednesday morning we had two single deck buses take all of us the 13...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Something that gives me pleasure is that as a white British born person, I'm one of a minority in London, just like all the others. None of us is dominant and most of us get on well with each other since we are all Londoners, regardless of colour, race, creed, sexual orientation or how short or...

These are the helmets the Anzac kids wear under compulsion law. Don't think they'd be too popular here:

    Ilkley Cycles Closing Down

Just like Britain after WW2. The shop I joined in 1950 covered bikes, add-on motors for bikes and motorbikes, adding scooters when they arrived. There were just two of us in the shop, the boss and me. (More correctly the boss and I, though strangely that grammatic rule never sounds right). .

Or take a cue from the past and deport Jesse Norman to Australia, where all the non-existent cyclists must potentially wear helmets. .

I did warn this could happen out of the EU. The Netherlands and Denmark made it impossible for the EU to order such a measure, despite wanting to, since there would have been near 100% disobedience in those countries. Jesse Norman needs his brain testing to even consider it. Australia made...

That chart is blatantly dishonest, comparing those sleeping rough in the UK with the much larger number of those homeless and often in homeless accommodation elsewhere. Not in any way like with like, we have huge numbers in temporary and homeless accommodation in the UK. In any case...

The current ones I'm getting are emails headed that my invoice for xyz service for £xxx amount is due for payment, giving a link to click on to see more detail. Each one cites a different invoice They are obviously phishing rather than trying to get a payment of the quoted amount, relying on...

I agree with most but wouldn't put Beeching with Marples. Beeching had no room to manouvre, this was Prime Minister Harold Wilson's instruction: In particular, the railway system must be modelled to meet current needs, and the modernisation plan must be adapted to this new shape and with the...

Are good times just around the corner? It seems they may be!

As has often been remarked, Britain is more inclined to follow the USA than Europe, and nowhere is that more true than in the love of cars. In this politician context, as in the program "Yes Minister", brave equals suicidal. And not everyone can cycle so the provision of good public transport...
