    Brexit, for once some facts.

And it's going to get a lot more painful over the two years of negotiations. I hope for your sake it doesn't becoming most painful of all after we exit, though I think it will. .

    Friction Drive comes of age

I was being kind Eddie, since Recy is so enthusiastic about it. In fact I had started to type about the gross inefficiency of friction drive onto the tyre and to rubbish what Kepler claims about it, but realised I'd be wasting my time. .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

According to some US journalists I've been listening to, the mood certainly has changed among US voters. It seems many who voted for Trump assumed his OTT methods were to gain the position but would be tempered in power, while the anti-Trump voters hoped that would be true. But Trump is...

    Friction Drive comes of age

I don't understand why you can't see it Recy, of his own admission it only works in totally dry conditions, making it too limited for consideration. Which is what I've been saying, friction drive onto tyres doesn't work acceptably. .

    Friction Drive comes of age

Yes, fully agree with that, just sounding the warning of the very real limitations, due to the physics involved. They are the same for Kepler in Australia as for us here in Europe. I don't know what it is about bikes and e-bikes that makes so many want to keep reinventing failed past ideas...

    Friction Drive comes of age

Not only have his methods and roller surface been used before, we've had two near identical iterations of this design in the last few years. They've both vanished, as his will. Friction drive onto exposed rubber is a defective method and no amount of repetition of previously tried methods is...

    Friction Drive comes of age

Much more powerful it seems. The Cybien motors were bought from the USA by the French maker, but I don't know who made them or what their original application was. It certainly wasn't e-bikes. .

    Friction Drive comes of age

Should be legal since the crucial point is the stated motor power. There is precedent too, the SRAM Sparc hub motor contained two motors and was sold throughout Europe including the UK, Halfords the last outlet. Since these two motor solutions have a common controller, it's arguable that they...

    Friction Drive comes of age

This one below was an interesting French variant on friction drive which avoided using the tyre. It had a pair of motors with rollers that pressed onto rubber tracks each side of the special rim. A cunning point was that it automatically released the motors away from the rim sides as it...

Building a battery pack for the Cambridge University Eco Racing Team

In the Solar Challenge long distance race, the batteries are just to accept the surplus from the panels when slow moving or going downhill. Solar dragsters are not allowed any battery. .

I need help in identifying my very second hand e-bike

Yes, they failed some while ago. Most of the bikes they offered were rebadged Synergie models, another company that failed but is now trading differently. .

    Friction Drive comes of age

My knowledge of friction drive bike motors spans 66 years, both petrol and electric in many forms, and with a wide variety of roller surfaces and profiles to obtain adequate grip. The roller drives all fail in various ways according to conditions. That's why they all vanished from the market...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Sorry to learn this, my brother's wife was similarly killed by falling down stairs. It's remarkably common and a greater risk than any class of road usage. Apparently as many as 1000 people a year lose their lives on stairs according to this link. Only accidental poisoning and suicide are...

Also known as a staircase. ;) Shall we settle for that, since falling down a staircase can be rather painful too? .

    Friction Drive comes of age

Indeed. My experience is long enough to have taken in all the various forms of friction drive, and they are not a viable method for e-bikes. But like so many dud out of date ideas, it keeps returning. .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I can well understand that being thought, but it wasn't my motivation. I opened the thread purely to draw attention to the factual radio program that I linked to, since it gave details of what happens when a country wished to benefit from the EU but restrict immigration. I honestly didn't...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I don't think this is necessarily true. The growing inherent problems for the federation project are such that it will be easier to split into a two tier Europe first. This dodges most of the problems and will allow the core group to integrate fully, leaving the second tier members to fully...

Just When I Thought It Was Safe To Back Outside!!

Neither, I don't have these problems. Because I recognise that drivers are likely to cut across in these ways, I have a mirror mounted when its in easy view and use it intelligently, make the necessary allowances. I've been in London boroughs for the last 55 years where there's never been any...
