Just When I Thought It Was Safe To Back Outside!!

Yes, I'm a mirror user and wouldn't be without one. I much prefer to see the actuality than a Garmin type display, since I can read more information from a mirror image. Costs a bit less too! .

I need help in identifying my very second hand e-bike

It looks like a model sold by Sustain Cycles around 2007 on for a couple of years, but there have been many similar. It would have originally have had a compact seatpost mounted battery, that rack being a later add-on. Though only 24 volts, with it's small wheels and lowish pedal gearing it...

Good to learn, my attitude exactly in similar circumstances. .

Just When I Thought It Was Safe To Back Outside!!

I agree. The problem with drivers is that in today's traffic conditions they feel they are constantly being held up. That often leads to them wanting to get a move on, sometimes prompting them to be impatient and take a chance. That's especially true when the vehicle potentially holding them...

Just When I Thought It Was Safe To Back Outside!!

Agreed, but I think some of the above posts show intolerance, one of the many things that cause accidents. As I observed, the third driver did use her mirror responsibly before actually turning, and seeing her mistake, immediately stopped to avoid a consequence. Some recognition is due, not...

Just When I Thought It Was Safe To Back Outside!!

I could reply at length about the problems cyclists cause drivers by their very close passing on both sides, often simultaneously in London. But I'm sure your experience makes such an explanation unnecessary. The vulnerability of cyclists is not relevant to good road behaviour, behaviour is...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I agree, I'm not worried about there being cliff edge. Apart from any other factor, we may be able to negotiate a transition period since that would benefit both sides, and that would smooth any change. My concern is more the prospect of a long slow decline, since that is what we were so good...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

None of which nullifies my criticism of the trends. We'd have been in a much better position without the Brexit vote. .

I see nothing optimistic in this graph, quite the opposite. Currently nearly imitating the 2008 recession, the projected growth is only to well below the overall norm for the whole period. And still only projected to just beyond the possible end of the negotiations. .

I often see this quoted in here and elsewhere, and it has no validity. Do cyclists give a metre of more room when they ride up the inside to pass slower vehicles? No of course they don't. Do cyclists give a metre or more room when the pass a slow moving vehicle more correctly on the offside...

Anyone who gives in to any blackmail is stupid. The French have a long history of standing firm against US pressures, and it's never hurt them. .

But not covering Brexit, only the two year negotiating period while we are still in and benefitting from EU membership. it's the years once we depart that are in question. .

Well it's at least consistent, we're building two aircraft carriers but have no planes for them. So we intend to buy the prohibitively expensive American F35s, but only for one boat, we can't afford to equip and run two of the carriers. One day the deluded morons who populate our UK...

Just When I Thought It Was Safe To Back Outside!!

That was helped by French cyclists being very militant, mounting road blockades and other such protests to get better safety on their roads. Similar militancy on a smaller scale in London has helped improve matters here, but we have a long way to go. .

Just When I Thought It Was Safe To Back Outside!!

Not at all. When I was much younger a female driver was very rare indeed, almost non-existent. For much of my life it was accepted that a man drove his wife, never the other way round. It was only in the 1980s that there was some real growth in women learning to drive and for a long time...

Just When I Thought It Was Safe To Back Outside!!

Of course, but drivers frequently make this "out of sight, out of mind" mistake when passing a bike, since bikes are commonly regarded as slow moving. The problem in essence is that at the point of passing the car is much faster, the subsequent slowing on the brakes changing that relationship...

She at least spotted you in her l/h mirror as she was about to turn and realised the problem, so stopped. What could have been confused her at first look in the left mirror was the way curved car side mirrors make things look further away than they are. That could momentarily have made the...

Is anybody going to Ebike Tips Live in Bath on Sunday?

Thanks for the very informative report, that Specialised Vado certainly looks good, a lot of thought and design gone into it. For once a bike that has a sensible front mudguard, low at the rear to protect the bike properly. .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Voting that way for the extreme could be the first step in the direction of revolutionary action. If the bizarre choices don't succeed, who knows what way the electorate will swing. They may placidly go back to the mediocre by voting, or they may get increasingly stroppy and disruptive. . .
