    Hydrogen Powered bikes

I'm not dismissing it, I merely said they weren't first. They've all worked fine and had the potential, but no-one has cracked the hydrogen supply problem yet. Electricity to charge battery pedelecs is everywhere, but hydrogen? The Toyota Mirai hydrogen car is also a very good working...

    Hydrogen Powered bikes

They're a bit late. Aprilia made the first one in 2001 and it looked good too for that era. It could never have gone to market then sadly, no convenient hydrogen supplies, still a bugbear now. Link US e-bike maker Zap were hard on their heels with one, also in 2001. A private Austrian guy...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

There was competition for the newspapers. Some we took to the fish and chip shop for them to wrap our purchases, others we tore into sheets and threaded on string loops to make toilet paper. Still more were used by some of us to make papier maché for modelling. The TV programs purporting to...

No, the freeze dried ones are too shrivelled. As OG says, they were probably the marrowfat ones. .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Yes, I remember Bejam, they arrived a bit too early, ahead of most wanting or able to own a fridge or freezer. Odd how timing upsets plans in the food business, like the way freeze dried peas arrived a bit too late, just as the superior and more convenient frozen ones arrived. I still have a...

    pawabyke x24 battery

On the X24 it's a small lithium bottle battery, 36 volt 6.5 Ah. Four years is a good life for one of these batteries, feeding the powerful Powabyke front hub motor, so it might finally have expired. .

The costs are also claimed back from uninsured drivers here who cause accidents, but at least the costs are covered meanwhile by the Motor Insurers Bureau, so no waiting. .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I'm well aware of those, but that's not what I said. I said we didn't even have fridges, let alone freezers when I was young. That was why we had milk deliveries seven days a week! The fridge only spread into common ownership in Britain during the 1970s, so by the end of the '70s Sunday milk...

Hauling heavy loads in steep hills.

Most countries have some sort of scheme to cope with uninsured vehicles, and I'd think Norway would. Here in the UK for example the Motor Insurers Bureau covers uninsured claims, the whole motor insurance industry covering the costs arising from that. .

    Neil Johns

Hi Neal, welcome to the forum. That is the early SRAM SPARC motor which used the 12.8 volt NiMh battery. There are actually twin motors inside the hub. It was quickly superceded by a 16.8 volt version, but I don't know what other changes there were at the time. I doubt yours could take 24...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

They've often been first with many things, but I'm sure today's kids will have picked up on the ice and salt potential from their ice cream makers. Those weren't around when I was young, people didn't even have fridges, let alone freezers to make ice! .

    Falling off....

In all my years of cycling and motorcycling I've never once hurt myself. But I've hurt myself three times when out walking, the last time very recently. I've often said I should have been born with wheels instead of legs! .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

This wouldn't have been around when we were young Tom. The knowledge arrived much more recently with ice cream makers that use a mix of ice cubes from one's freezer together with salt to drop the temperature low enough to freeze an ice cream mix. These have two metal bowls, one within the...

Yes, it's the L1e-A class. The type approval law for this should be finalised for January 2018. The UK which already had a moped driving licence (group P) has introduced a new one for the L1e-A class, group Q, and this may also apply in some other EU countries. However, it's been in existence...

    Camera in your pocket thread.

Hi Eddie. This is almost certainly the Woodlouse Spider, Dysdera crocata. As the name suggests, they mainly feed on woodlice or similar such as pill bugs. They can feed on other prey but have a preference for woodlice, their large chelicerae (venom bearing piercing jaws) are tough enough to...

Hauling heavy loads in steep hills.

My last two certified legal e-bikes with identical electrical components have nominally been exactly this, only in the real world the controllers could actually peak at around 28 amps, as the measured 1000 watts gross indicated. So I don't see any problems on the legality. .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Yes, at the top end we are priced for the wealthy Chinese, Russians and Arabs now. Can't blame the hoteliers though, they are just following the market and pricing by demand. This city of 8.5 millions with not enough capacity to house itself received over 18 million visitors last year, so the...

    Bicycle sidecar

I suppose an ideal banking design for carrying your twins with best balance would have the wheel central in the sidecar width and one little'un sitting each side of it. That would largely neutralise any downthrust on the left of the bike. Now you can say "Drat, back to the drawing board!" :) .

Is it a good idea to re-torque nuts and bolts once in a while?

In the first year of owning and regularly riding a bike yes, it's worth checks within one month and once more between three and six months. But I've generally found from then on everything tends to remain secure. Much will depend on the surfaces you ride on though. .
