    Brexit speed question.

I'm sure you know what I mean, general speed limits applying to all vehicles. If changed they only ever go down. Of course there's no reason why they couldn't be raised. But for legal bureaucracy free pedelecs they won't be. Bot the EU and the UK's DfT have made that very clear. .

    Our replacement for the EU?

I agree with EU type of restrictive management and control, but the Commonwealth doesn't operate in that way. It's a very informal body within which we all muddle along together with considerable tolerance. We could have equally informal trading agreements operating within flexible...

    Brexit speed question.

Agree, I was speaking of highway speed limits which only ever go down, rather than a specific like that which may have been influenced by EU law, since that has also increased sizes and weights over time. We've had our assist limit help from the EU with the change from 12 to 15.5 mph, and our...

    Brexit speed question.

Ah but you are speaking about progress, in which I agree. I'm speaking about UK governance! I back what I've prophesied with 70 years experience of the UK's restrictive attitudes, particularly in road traffic law. In UK law speed limits if changed only ever reduce. Anyway, for me at 80...

    Brexit speed question.

It will never happen though, so wishing for it is pointless. EU law has been based on common practice in their main cycling countries, where 25 kph is quite fast. And when we were uninfluenced by EU law, the typically restrictive UK set the assist limit at 12 mph, only increasing that to 15...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

English is the world's dominant language and it's idle to pretend otherwise. All the evidence shows that and there's no evidence that any other language comes near to that status. The argument that the 1.5 billion in the graph I linked to is invalid is good for all the other languages listed...

I understand, but in my experience the end can always be cut off. The twistgrip throttle is usually locked onto the bar by a small allen bolt and it can be positioned so the rotating end isn't pressing hard on the mirror base. The rubber grip end doesn't in any way locate the throttle. .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

The 1.5 billion are sufficiently fluent for day to day language use and most would consider them to be fluent in English. If you add in those who are not fluent and know some English the total would be far in excess of 1.5 billion, possibly over 2.5 billion I think you are both clutching at...

Not really, see the link in my post just above. The English language has the total most speakers. .

Why on earth not? If Woosh can't give a good reason for what they say, and I bet they can't, cut that end off and make your wife much safer. .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I disgree that it's step backwards, the advantages you mention are artificially introduced by the unnecessary impedance of different languages and the challenge of the reduced understanding that results. If all were only using one common language there would be an increased potential for...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I expected disagreement on a large scale, it's inevitable. But I'm focussed on the desirable end game of a world in which we all speak the same language, and there are no other languages Your objections are valid, but are precisely what is slowing progress to one language for our one species. .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I accept your point, but I prefer to argue that with some 300 important languages in the world, all of us randomly learning various other languages is pointless. What any individual can achieve is still far short of adequate so of very limited use. Much better that one particular language is...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Exactly Rob, second referendums are a nonsense. Which is why we should ignore this Cameron one since it was the second. The first one in 1975 was for Remain and that was our final decision. Little organisation? It's behind only China and India in size! And 44 years is hardly short lived...

I've always used the Cateye ones, mainly the BM500G model. As you found the end screw does need to be slammed up very tight and they can get knocked out of alignment easily if manoeuvring the bike carelessly, but once you're familiar they can do the job ok. .
