It's because they are no longer able to work. How could they possibly spare the time when they are fully occupied 16 hours a day on their smartphones? ;) .

    Do we like Andrea Eagle?

I think it's academic who leads the Labour party into a general election, even with God in charge they'd lose. Quite simply the loss of Scotland to the SNP and the weakening of Labour in Wales has left them with impossible arithmetic, small c conservative England not containing a large enough...

I think he was fed up with the PM role, partly due to some personal failures, hence his announcement of going at the next general election. And the failures? They were two promises that he'd made but couldn't carry though. The first was the promise to the hunting lobby to repeal the anti-fox...

    Do we like Andrea Eagle?

Exactly my view too. There's no way she could ever lead a Labour party to victory, or any other party for that matter. I think she's deluded if she thinks she could ever be a prime minister, she has none of the necessary attributes. It will be interesting if she's the only challenger, since...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I don't disagree with the sentiments which I'm sure are true, but I have regard for the way the population tire of issues eventually. This process if dragged out for two or more years will leave everyone so thoroughly bored that their lethargy will possibly triumph. The few with staying power...

That's for certain. Having destroyed our own domestic turbine blade manufacture and our train manufacturing industry, taking all that business and supplying our trains and turbines, they now make just some blades here. Talk about crumbs from the table. .

No, and I haven't said that. I've posted several times that we will proceed towards exit and complete that process in due course. But I've also maintained that the form that departure will take might well upset many. It could well be the Norway option in some form, which is out but only just...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I completely agree that it would be a complete waste of time and have posted as such. I'm not being negative since it would not be my choice, I'm just anticipating the sort of option a typical politician and party will take to remain in power. Look at the reality, the government party and...

Should the over 70's be banned from driving?

Yes a real danger, but not applying to me. I'm on record in this forum and elsewhere for being totally opposed to all in-car entertainment and wishing cars weren't automatically supplied with it. The Radio/CD/MP3 player in my car is never switched on, I've never learnt what it's multiplicity...

Norway is not in the EU, they are out. I think it's you who seem desperate to try to prove that a total departure is the only thing possible. It's not, there are many forms of being out of the EU, and Norway's is one of them. It's called EFTA, and I wouldn't bet against us joining it. .

I'm afraid not Tillson, it's their ambrosia, not ours. What we can look forward to is rather different, here's a taster: Compensation for flight delays is not a UK measure, and lawyers expect that to die when we leave, the airlines already being very unwilling to pay out. The EU has brought...

Should the over 70's be banned from driving?

I think everyone should prepare for driving to cease with inability due to age to reduce the impact when that day arrives. Ever since the early 70's I've been prepared for the fact that one day I won't be up to it. I regularly checked my eyesight was up to scratch and when in 2013 I started...

Should the over 70's be banned from driving?

Yes, it would be a great way of thinning out the traffic on our roads. Not the entirely responsible and capable over 80's though. :) .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Originally Norway joined EFTA as a founder member which meant compliance with many EU requirements, and as far as I remember the Norwegians were very happy with that situation. Indeed they prospered. Since that was an "almost in" situation their government long after asked via a referendum...

I've no idea Dave, I'm only taking note of her various utterances. She might have in mind trying to get a good enough overall indication from the EU members to persuade the parliamentarians to repeal that communities act. If so, I wish her luck with that! .

She's mentioned it could be Spring, so could be far beyond three months, more like nine. She's intent on knowing terms first, very sensible since once article 50 is served, we're on our way out and will have to accept whatever crumbs they offer. I agree for many, but our markets are far too...

One word, Norway. They voted not to join the EU, but their relationship is nearly identical to ours. They accept free movement, they have most of the EU laws, (even our pedelec one!), and they pay in substantially. What they don't have is any say in any of those. .

No, since she wouldn't say "we're going to make a failure of it", would she? It's just more meaningless rhetoric. .

But it's not is it? Of course a word said the first time means the same as when repeated. Referendum means referendum, voter means voter. All nonsensical, and therefore as statements to transmit information, they're meaningless. .

Agreed, they see May as a better sign of stability than someone more inclined to extreme change. .
