    Brexit, for once some facts.

When she was being interviewed by a newspaper reporter she said that since she had children, that meant she had a greater stake in the countrty than someone without. She then went on to say Theresa May has no children so was not in the same position. Then to rub it in she went on to again...

Why driving isn't fun anymore :(

Yes indeed, the M25 is strictly only suitable for the regulars and locals. It can be a very dangerous place for the unfamiliar. At its best I quite like it, but those occasions are when the unfamiliar would find it the most frightening. .

It is amazing how badly informed we were prior to the referendum

There was never an Arab Spring, it was just a fabrication of wishful thinking by the Western powers, hoping that they could by provocation and assistance trigger democracy in the Middle East. They failed. The elite haven't been overthrown, by a circuitous route the military were returned to...

Brexit, actually the UK has come out rather well.

You think this a good thing? The Chinese have a way of wishing someone ill, saying: "May you live in interesting times". .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I don't think even the loyal party members will select Leadsome after her disgraceful behaviour in blatantly trying to blame an entirely innocent journalist for her own stupidity. Even her own colleagues and supporters were shocked by this despicable behaviour. There's little doubt if it had...

For anyone wanting to listen, it's available at any time on the BBC i-player on the link below: Viz, an unfeasibly large success .

For such an important decision, 60/40. Anything under a 10% margin is unacceptable for this fundamental change. And I repeat, I made my view on a marginal result clear before the vote. .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I didn't want a referendum in the first place since we are governed by parliament, not by referenda. But if we are going to have referenda, there should be an ample preset tipping point for validity. I would have been just as unhappy with a similarly close remain vote, and said so in here...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

But this time it wasn't that simple. If the pro-Remainers had been in the majority, only the pro-Leavers would have lost. But with the pro-leavers in the majority, we've all lost. :( .

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I agree a second referendum is a barmy notion, which is why this latest one should be ignored. Having joined in 1973, against the will of many, a referendum was held in 1975 to settle the issue. We settled it in favour of remaining, so that should have been the last word. But having now set a...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

There's another side to this coin though Dave. We did indeed make a good life for ourselves and I don't feel in any way guilty about enjoying the proceeds. The young in turn can choose to take control and do the same, but they need to act to do that. That meant for once taking their noses out...

Why driving isn't fun anymore :(

I second every word Flud, driving is indeed still great, even the least of today's cars being infinitely better than those of yesteryear. The only downside is the UK roads, both condition and congestion, but at least we are in considerable climate controlled comfort while enduring them. . .

Should the over 70's be banned from driving?

It's not just simple reapplication via a D1 form, instead a D46P form must be completed in which declarations of health status questions have to be completed. Any deliberately false anmswers mean invalidation of ones licence and insurance, so the consequences can be serious. Health problems...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

The EU has done nothing in those respects because it's far too sensible. The political and military actions of the UK and Nato in those areas have absolutely no legitimacy. They don't bring peace, they bring war, huge suffering and disruption with millions having to flee around the world...

And anyway, buying Asian can still mean buying EU manufacture, Toyota and Nissan currently still EU since UK made, and Suzuki made by Magyar-Suzuki in Hungary. And I do mean made, in the case of Suzuki and Nissan not just assembled. .

Should the over 70's be banned from driving?

No, it won't happen since the facts don't support such a move. There are other age groups far more dangerous and others with similar accident rates. That's why insurers are almost all completely happy to continue insuring elderly drivers with no additions to their premiums. As Yamdude said...

Should we be suprised by the Brexit victory?

Jeremy Corbyn (with a y) said early in the campaign that he's 75% in favour of the EU, explaining that while he's not completely in favour of how it's run, he supports it in general. He is definitely not a leaver at heart. As the true left wing person that he is, that's hardly surprising...

Why driving isn't fun anymore :(

It's really American naming originally, and commonly heard down here since it is how we've adapted to our congestion. We drive in the lane for our speed when all the lanes are full up since it's the only way that makes sense. Early morning and late evening on the M25 south the lanes divide up...

Why driving isn't fun anymore :(

I know that's true and I've seen it for myself closer to you. I occasionally drive down to Dorset, using the M27 westbound in the later stages, and on that it's usually clear enough to use with the correct lane discipline. But as you say, theres always some middle lane hoggers and even the odd...

Almost everyone! I insist I'm a learner driver, despite my 64 years with a licence, simply because there's always something new to learn and by doing that it stops me being complacent. Result, clean licence and full NCD since the year dot, so it pays to be a learner. :) .
