    Winnats Pass.

I'd never shop on a Saturday, it's a madhouse then. And the referendum outcome won't affect me at my age so I'm not deeply engaged with the issue. Ultimately it's simply a question of whether we wish to be in a union or on our own. My view is that in a playground of big bullies, it's better...

    Winnats Pass.

I think Stephen H. has his head too much in black holes to have an opinion on the subject. And I just think the campaigns to leave and to remain have the wrong names. I'd suggest; "Wogs begin at Calais" and "Let's do nothing" are more apposite. P.S. Crossed with post from d8veh.

    Giant Lafree spares or repair

This the 1999 to 2001 Lafree series which uses an SLA battery, basically 2 x 12 volt batteries in a casing, and a rear hub motor. If it's complete the charger is built into the bike, mains plugging directly in. .

    Charging pattern

Very tricky. One module at 3.8 kilos is an acceptable weight, but it would only deliver 7.5 volts. Five modules in series would give a compatible 37.5 volts nominal, but the 19 kilos weight would be crippling. Breaking the modules down to cells and using 10 in e-bike series fashion for the...

    Kalkhoff woes, need help.

I'd be wary of changing to an Impulse 2 though, since a number of them have been chewing up their gears. There's a new Impulse Evo replacing it now, and most Impulse 1 units have been perfectly ok. .

    Charging pattern

E-bike batteries have a tough time due to their size and weight restriction, meaning the cells second hand are often near to or at the end of life. Many only scrape to two years, though the best and most expensive examples can get into a fifth year in moderate demand systems. The car ones most...

    Kalkhoff woes, need help.

It's likely to be the internal gears breaking up, so with no spares available little chance of a successful repair. This sort of non-repair thing is common with crank drive units. They are intended to be reliable for a sensible life, but inevitably there's always the odd one that fails early...

    Bimoz mid drive kit

I can't help thinking that a crank speed direct drive would be gutless, with extremely low torque. .

Failed on my first big hill

I wish this had been made clear earlier. Many of us are predominantly road riders, in my case it's nearly all my riding. Off road, especially on rough stuff, there's a good case for CD on other factors than drive efficiency. .

News: Juicy launch the Poco, their new smaller step-through

Well done Juicybike. We've had the odd reduced size pedelec before, but usually with 20" wheels which is sometimes a step too far. A 24" wheel alternative is very welcome for the shorter riders. .
