    Leaving the EU

I agree and wasn't arguing that hypothetical circumstance of us already having left. But that circumstance won't arise anyway if we vote to leave. We have to give two years notice to leave, and during that time Scotland will be able to vote for independence and leave the UK since there's no...

    Leaving the EU

But you also haven't read anywhere that splitting away does constitute a new membership. At least I have that prior example in favour of my position. Long before, Algeria split from France and also left the EU at the same time, while leaving France a member. That separation also caused no...

    Leaving the EU

An even larger European Union that included much of the Middle East and North Africa was a single market with a single currency once before, and the currency didn't cause the parting after 400 years into separate countries. That worked ok so could again I'm speaking of the Roman Empire and the...

    Leaving the EU

When EU members Greenland and Denmark split in 1979 with home rule for each, neither had to adopt the euro and haven't to this day. Scotland splitting from the UK is the same circumstance, either remaining in the EU would not be threatened with compulsory adoption of the euro. Splitting away...

    Speed increase

I don't know what's in the Bosch battery, but the higher capacity Kalkhoff batteries have up to 56 of 3000 mAh 18650 cells. They cost over £10 each retail on ebay. Add the cells support frame, the BMS, the case and connectors etc and it can be seen where the £700 can be from.

    L1e-A testing requirements

Thanks Shemozzle, more complexity! Two things struck me. First that completion isn't until March 2018 now. Second, that once again the UK was asking for worse conditions, this time in wanting larger number plates, fortunately refused. Our administrators really are our worst enemies at times. .

    Childrens Pedlec

It depends where you are, only the nanny-state UK has this ridiculous minimum age restriction. No other European country or the EU Commission find it necessary. In my view if someone can ride a bike, they can safely ride a pedelec. .

    CHARGER DIFFERENCES??

That is definitely not a Panasonic battery. Kalkhoff's first e-bikes from late 2007 used the Panasonic unit but after a while they decided to supply their own name branded batteries with it, made for them by German battery company BMZ. You can use the bottom two chargers on this webpage, but...

Is £800 enough money to spend on an everyday ride to work bike.

Being seen as bikes and not motor vehicles has been a legal blessing for e-bikes, but also a curse for value perception in a world where one can buy a new bike for £49. .

    Innocent until proved guilty?

I understand that many answer "no", even with unspent convictions. One can hardly blame them for taking that risk. They've been released into the community and should have an equal chance in such things as employment where the conviction isn't relevant to the employment sought. For civil...

Is £800 enough money to spend on an everyday ride to work bike.

I don't think so either Tom. If anything, ceramics technology has been more promising in the engineering field, though once again, not for any sort of gears to my knowledge. This link has some interesting content on engineering ceramics. .

How on earth does he get away with this?

Agreed all points John. I've seen cases of boats thoughtlessly cutting across rods and lines, or driven at well over legal speeds, churning up the water and mud, ruining the fishing. Strangely, rivers are a bit like roads, they can both bring out the worst in people. .

How on earth does he get away with this?

They are just as big a pain to the boating community, seeming to think that our few rivers are solely there for their fishing. And worst of all in my view are those who own whole stretches of our rivers for their sole fishing use with no access to others, something which should never have...

    CHARGER DIFFERENCES??

As a general rule with lithium batteries, the faster the charge, the greater the battery stress so the shorter the battery life, but that does vary with the particular battery chemistry in use. I don't know that faster charger at all so cannot pass any judgment on it and don't even know if it's...

Is £800 enough money to spend on an everyday ride to work bike.

Age and experience comes into it. Derby Cycles/Kalkhoff only took over the Daum design quite recently as their first ever own-brand e-bike motor. They have been upgrading it on the back of no previous experience and have unsurprisingly hit problems. Years ago Suzhou Bafang also had many...

    Innocent until proved guilty?

Not uncommon these days Neptune, justice taking a back seat. The justice system itself has been greatly corrupted since 1993 in order to increase the rate of convictions, leading to the present day when even the Home Office believe that some 3000 innocent persons are in prison at any one...

Cyclists soon more important than car drivers

I think the police have largely given up on this in many areas, and it's the first area of cutback when budgets are slashed, saving on both salaries and vehicles. The origins of this rot though are very long ago when the responsibility for parking control was removed from the police. That then...

    Someone got of lightly

There's a state called Joint enterprise which can apply to all present when one commits a crime. For example others in a group can be found guilty of murder when just one kills someone. Someone waiting outside a building while someone accompanying them has entered to steal can be just as...
