    London E-bike owners needed!

There isn't a similar city unfortunately, very much smaller scales and very different environments. Also there's a lack of city data there, ours being in part due to having the TfL authority. It's the opposite here in the UK, excellent London data but poor national data. I don't think...

    London E-bike owners needed!

Of course I wouldn't disagreed with any of that Kuorider, all very true. But I fear that as with anotherkiwi that the point I'm making is still being lost, as your last remark shows. It's quite simply that these outcomes are in peoples hands, accidents are caused, they don't "just happen", and...

    London E-bike owners needed!

Of course I'm well aware of the disparity in cycling rates and drew attention to that in my posts on this last year, but it's not relevant to my above post. It's clear that the cycling infrastructure in the Netherlands still fails to sufficiently protect their cyclists against death, while the...

    London E-bike owners needed!

Why do you respond to good news with such negativity? I'm not saying everything is perfect, it isn't anywhere, not even in the so called "safe" countries like the Netherlands where a quarter of our population kill almost twice as many cyclists each year* despite their fancy cyclepaths. The...

    London E-bike owners needed!

Not necessarily. Most years London suffers 14 or more cycling deaths, and last year in the first six months there were 8, right on target for the usual end. But after huge publicity about the issue, mainly aimed at cyclists to help them make safer decisions, the second half of the year had...

    Help Going Legal

Which might have been the ST2 since that has a headlight and may have some of the other items necessary, but the OP's bike is an ST1 which she has said is a minefield to register. Of course they may be offering them with the several necessary modifications for registration, but that doesn't...

    Tandem bike---suitable E motor

These two are substantially more powerful than the average 250 wat hub motors, and their additional torque is very noticeable. The only ways of coping better or differently are either an illegal hub motor or a legal crank motor. The latter would allow slower increased climb ability through the...

    Tandem bike---suitable E motor

Tandems aren't allowed more power, they are restricted to the same 250 watt rating. For reliability with good power and climb ability I think a BPM-CST or eZee motor would be a good choice. Neither are particularly large diameter and eZee have a choice of battery systems with rear racks to suit. .

    Help Going Legal

True, but the OP specifically wants to be legal, and there are always the risks if one has an accident. Then the police look at the physical situation, including the legality of involved vehicles. .

They don't have type approval under EU wide rules Dave, they only have approval for the S class where that class has national permission. See my post just above. .

    Help Going Legal

I'm afraid the OP's Stromer ST1 cannot have been type approved for the UK or the EU. It falls under L1e-B and the obligatory items to get type approval not fitted on that model are: Headlight conforming to the requirements. Stop Light because it has an assist speed above 25 kph. A white...

Why doesn't anyone make custom battery packs?

Indeed true. When I was young I once spent two years in Widdecombe-on-the-Moor, right in the heart of a Radon hotspot, but have probably been more at risk from the years I smoked 60+ a day. Remarkably I've escaped the ill effects of both for four-score years, so I must have a charmed life...

    Help Going Legal

Not quite that easy I'm afraid, the catch being that the S class bikes are registered and number plated. Under UK law that means the other country registered vehicle can only be used for a maximum of six months in any twelve month period. All the rules which also apply to the S class are on...

    Help Going Legal

There's no chance that the ordinary pedelec law will change anywhere in the UK or EU, it's becoming a world standard with other countries adopting it. But there is a slim chance that one day the DfT might allow the S class in the UK, which would make your Stromer legal here. At present they...

Why doesn't anyone make custom battery packs?

Conscience is clear, I didn't kill anyone. I did have to have Special Branch and the fire brigade visit randomly every year to inspect and check for obvious public safety reasons, but otherwise no problems. I'd used a loophole in the regulation of nuclear materials to achieve having them at...

Yes, also the high speed Kalkhoffs. They can have up to 500 watts where the S class is legal and fall into the full moped class, 45kph/28mph, currently being renamed class L1e-B. The 25kph/15.5mph up to 1000 watt Low Powered Mopeds are becoming class L1e-A now. In the UK both fall under...

And yet for 22 years from 1973 to 1995 I held a Home Office licence to keep isotopes of Polonium 210 in my home, and did so. You'll recall that this highly radioactive material was what was used to kill Alexander Litvinenko. .

    Wisper 705se gear cogset repair

It is just a freewheel so the normal removal tools can be used. I imagine that his problem is that the cable runs through the freewheel centre. That has to be disconnected further out and the connector there may be too large to pass through the freewheel centre, a common problem. He has to...

    Help Going Legal

I only know of two people who have ever achieved type approval and registration, and in both cases that needed extensive modification. Such things as motorcycle rated tyres and a moped headlight for example. One said afterwards that with all the trouble of doing this it wasn't worth it in the...

    Trike conversion to electric

The shape of the frame rules out a bottom bracket crank motor, so the only practical option is a rear hub motor which can combine with the derailleur gears. That can be mated to a rear mounted carrier battery, You can get the whole package for that from Cyclezee, who market the very powerful...
