    E-bike commute

Is it that you are driving on the wrong side of the road? ;):D .

    Hi from NYC, USA!!!

Welcome to the forum tds101, I hope you enjoy your exploration of our e-bike market. We have a number of US members including RobNYC as you'll see on this link. Some things you'll probably find disappointing witn our new e-bikes, they are not allowed throttles, only pedal control of power...

    Leaving the EU

I agree, the original European Community made far more sense and I've been opposed to some of the further expansion. John Major's backing for inclusion of the Eastern Bloc countries I felt was particularly misguided and it's led to the current troubles with Russia over NATO surrounding it's...

    Helmets @ Aldi

It was Sydney I was invited to, by an ex-pat friend saying how wonderful and how much better everything was. But after three years he came back here and has never returned to Australia! .

How on earth does he get away with this?

It's surprising how national these feelings are though. The Dutch often find 10 to 12 mph a nice happy medium but will sometimes ride at 15 mph if needing to get a move on. I think most would regard 20 mph in town as positively anti-social. The Danes seem to regard about 15 mph as their happy...

Getting the best from a lithium polymer battery

Battery Management System. Our lithium batteries have an internal circuit that monitors the individual cells and controls their charging to ensure no damage, and also balances them evenly in the late stage of a charge. .

How on earth does he get away with this?

No, the motor has to be completely cut off at 15.5 mph and even below that speed can only operate if pedalling as well. Pedalling combined with motor power above the assist speed limits has never been allowed in either the UK or the EU. In addition, independently acting throttles are illegal...

    Helmets @ Aldi

And it isn't just anti-cycling law, from everything I've learnt, so many Australian laws appear to be either excessive or excessively enforced. I find their restrictive attitudes so repugnant that I have never wanted to even visit the place, despite invitations to do so. .

How on earth does he get away with this?

Our UK assist speed limit is 15.5 mph since 6th April 2015 (matching the EU 25 kph). Before that it was 15 mph, and way back in the early 1980s the original UK EAPC law limited the assist speed to 12 mph. Legal 20 mph assist we can only dream of. :) .

Getting the best from a lithium polymer battery

Running it flat initially applies to some batteries which have sophisticated integral meters showing their content. This sets the meter zero point for meter accuracy, hence the dealer advice. I don't know if your Sparta has such a battery, but it won't do any harm to run it very low once...

Looking for advice on a bike that could cover a 50 mile distance with ease

The only problem I see with this is the authorities attitude, since charge current to the battery in use on the go makes it a motor vehicle, since some of the current can feed the motor directly. .

Looking for advice on a bike that could cover a 50 mile distance with ease

It's worth watching this video, not just for the information but for the on-screen captions. They were produced with a speech to text program and the outcome is quite funny at times. For example, Elf becomes either else or health, and the inventors name becomes Qatar! .

    Leaving the EU

Yes, fine thanks Gray, been out in the sunshine and no problems despite it still being cold. My heart related problems only cause me a bigger problem about once in a couple of months at present and I'm able to cope with that. Since my mother had one of the very first replacement heart valves...

Kalkhoff Endeavour S11 Premium, how to register

Yes, that bracket is for the smaller S pedelec registration plate that they have in Germany. The DfT have already argued within the EU against smaller plates, so even if a miracle happens and we eventually get the S class, we'll be stuck with full size motorbike plates. .

And he's at it again now that he has joined the anti-EU brigade. He immediately repeated some blatantly untrue statements about EU requirements, obviously trusting that there are those gormless enough to believe anything he says. .

Kalkhoff Endeavour S11 Premium, how to register

We still can, but the person advising that has probably seen the current EU intention to make full face compulsory, and rather jumped the gun. .

Rear light on Raleigh Motus bike

I don't know the Motus, but some e-bikes use plastic mudguards with electrical conductor strips moulded in. With those the connections from rear light to mudguard strip can cause trouble, and so can the tag at bottom front of the rear mudguard where the current is transferred from the mudguard...

    Wanted Panasonic charger

Thanks for the information. Your 302 is Wh, not Ah, and that is one of the smaller Kallkhoff batteries. That means you can use the standard Panasonic charger on either the Panasonic batteries or your Kalkhoff one. The Kalkhoff fast charger is for their larger 18 and 24 Ah batteries (453 and...
