What's the Smart e-bike really like...

They basically followed their previous effort Dave, the Mercedes e-bike of 2001 which similarly only ran for a while and was just a promotional for their cars. That was built by motorcycle maker EMC Puch in Austria and had the similar battery tank arrangement, belt drive, with again a direct...

    Motor Noise

That's not the best choice for two reasons. First it has disc brake for which you have no caliper mountings on the frame. Your present brake is a roller brake, completely different despite it's cooling disc. Second it's a direct drive motor which is usually ok for speed but won't be as good...

Probably the good sealing keeping your body heat in Andy. It's often preached that multiple thin layers are as good as or better than one thick layer for keeping warm. .

Been reported for Riding without a license and no insurance

It must be your area and it's police Robert. Synthman who is one of our members had one of these for a long time and only ever got stopped once. But that was only because the officer was genuinely interested wanting to know more about the model and wasn't questioning it's legality. .

    Efficient Battery Charging

As John says, and make sure you do charge every couple of months while they are out of use. If left beyond three months many batteries can become useless due to slow self-discharge taking cells down into the failure region. If you find it's not easy to leave it at two-thirds charge at...

    Helmets @ Aldi

While I've been out walking in tne countryside I do very occasionally break into short runs just to keep muscle loose, active and able. You know the old motto, "Use it or lose it". But my mention of running was just a deliberate tease of the helmet brigade. E-bikes are assist limited to...

    Helmets @ Aldi

If I needed a helmet, for example in doing something dangerous like rock climbing, climbing a ladder or getting a heavy saucepan down from a high shelf, I'd be very happy to wear one of these. But not for walking down the street, running or cycling. .

    Motor Noise

You can see the internals of a typical Bafang motor and read details about stripping one on this link in one of my websites. Some motors open the other side but the internal layouts are always very similar. You may find that as well as the nylon gears being stripped, the rack in the hub shell...

    Un taxed Cars

True, though those DVLA lift trucks turning up this summer caused quite a stir on my estate, so probably a good deterrent where seen acting. We don't seem to have any parking etc attendants these days in my area, possibly all part of the cutbacks. Cars routinely park fully on pavements totally...

    Quick fit chain links

Here's my complete on-file list: Trade bikes = 5/32" chain roller/sprocket teeth width Hub and Single gear = 1/8" chain roller/sprocket teeth width Up to 8 speed derailleur = 3/32" chain roller/sprocket teeth width 10/11 speed vary by maker, so for all derailleurs it's best to also measure...

Bike wont go Faster Than 20mph on down hill.

You're stuck with that maximum I'm afraid, it's normal. A direct drive motor running near to a design limit will regenerate current whether wired to do that or not. All electric motors do, but internally geared ones have internal freewheels that disconnect the motor. Since your DD motor is an...

    Un taxed Cars

They will be punished accordingly when they do eventually get caught by one kind or another of ANPR. Remember that every vehicle not taxed and used has to be SORN* declared, and failure to do so is itself an offence. That means when they are caught they will have the accumulated offences for...

Bike wont go Faster Than 20mph on down hill.

I'm not sure if your bike has a direct drive motor, it looks as though it might have in the photos. With no internal freewheel those start to try to generate at speed which acts to stop further speed gain after a fixed degree of speed increase. .

I answered the post question Dave, while half expecting the sort of answer I got, but have still politely responded to yet another of the poster's questions since. Ever since this forum opened in 2006 I've endeavoured to set a standard of good manners, respect and helpfulness while not rising...

Does car battery voltage drop when it gets colder?

Timing belt engines are simpler to design and cheaper to make, with no enclosed chamber in the castings or lubrication needs. And of course even timing chains can fail, hence some designs using a train of gears to the overhead camshaft. Another consideration for the manufacturers is providing...

Recommended Chain upgrade for Kudos Duke.

KMC chains are good and they do higher grade than standard ones. Your hub gear Duke uses 1/8" chain and KMC offer the standard B1 chain at £4.49 or this high grade Z1X chain at £9.99, both at Wiggle at those prices. Here's a link to that better one And a link to the cheaper one .

I agree with you, I much prefer normal rigid forks. As Fordulike remarked above, tyre choice is more effective where comfort is concerned, saving weight and avoiding soggy handling. .
