should i buy the watseka e bike?

Not legal now anyway, since it has a throttle which allows power without pedalling. .

They are exempted from type approval as motor vehicles in the type approval law 168/20143, with this clause: (b) vehicles exclusively intended for use by the physically handicapped Pedelecs exemption is in this clause: (h) pedal cycles with pedal assistance which are equipped with an...

I look at the history. As I remarked just above, nearly all these e-bikes have been illegal ever since November 2003, in which time there have been numerous accidents involving them. But not once has their legality been challenged in the courts by an insurance company or other third party. I...

As I've remarked earlier, I think no-one is going to enforce any of these regulations, so that will be the resolution. After all, we've seen it all before. 2013/24/EC passed into UK law on 10th November 2003 made all the throttle controlled e-bikes sold after that date illegal without type...

Anyone interpret what's for sale here! panasonic motor or what?

Little wonder anyone could get muddled! There were some e-bikes from German makers including Kalkhoff using a Panasonic front hub motor but also having the excellent crank torque sensor and controller that their crank motor units had. To implement that they had a smaller cast alloy crankcase...

The little car you can drive in France without a License.

We can all have such things, contrary to most opinion the EU doesn't prevent anything within any member country, they rule on cross border issues. The problem is the UK governments's nanny state attitudes as was so clearly shown by the DfT's refusal to allow the BMW C1 scooter to be used...

The little car you can drive in France without a License.

The link does work ok. These VSP cars can be much better than that biased article though. Renault make a detuned version of their Twizy two seater e-car which classifies as a VSP, and it's much quieter and has more low end torque than the ic cars. I'm all for having VSPs here in the UK, but...

Clacking noise - Kalkhoff Impulse 2 motor

The truth Dave is in what the article Aftersales Kalkhoff UK linked to actually said: Our bestsellers: The powerful Impulse drives – bought over 400,000 times As you see, no mention of the Impulse 2 or 18 months as Aftersales Kalkhoff UK interpreted in their text: "There are now 400000 units...

Most are awful, but the low powered version of the Renault Twizy to fit the VSP market is rather different and a much higher standard. Cheaper too. I think the VSP market is ideally suited for electric power, much higher low speed torque than ic engines, and much quieter than the Lombardini...

The French have and make pedelecs without brake cutouts, but like us they were the first to sign up to EN15194. So I doubt that requires brake cutouts. .

With all the chat about throttles, did we sign up to EN15194.

They are treated as legal if they complied with the pedelec law at the time of the build, i.e. the 1983 EAPC regulations, but allowed up to 250 watts rather than the 200 watts that specifies. They have grandfather rights. Technically in law the pre-April 2015 situation here in the UK is...

Clacking noise - Kalkhoff Impulse 2 motor

All pedelec sales in Germany for 2013 was 410,000 and for 2014 was 480,000. We can perhaps predict well over 500,000 for 2015. Those mean that if Kalkhoff sold 400,000 Impulse 2 in the last 18 months, by taking over half the market they must have really hurt Bosch and all other pedelec makers. .

Thanks Sherman, there are quite a few differences here in the UK. We had enjoyed independent throttles until now, but have now lost them unless the pedelec is type approved. The Transport Department have indicated they will treat them as pedelecs if type approved and all other pedelec law is...

With all the chat about throttles, did we sign up to EN15194.

I've previously read that we finally did and are subject to it. I can't remember that source though. However the April 2015 EAPC changes were enacted to remove the conflicts with EN15194, so we can take it that we did. According to the ExtraEnergy site who should know what they are talking...
