    Guilty feelings

You really missed a trick there Mike. I'd have sailed past with the smiling comment "Chinese technology". .

Charging ahead: the electric bike revolution has arrived in Britain - E-bikes in the Telegraph

I agree the Gocycle is a rich mans toy, it doesn't even begin to be practical or sensible. If someone wants the convenience of single side support 20" wheels, the Giant Halfway has had those for years, and it really does fold. Fit a crank motor kit and chainguard and the result is well under...

    Guilty feelings

Same as Arstu, I just smile and say "I'm cheating, it's electric". .

    Copenhagen wheel

It's got a 48 volt battery though, which given it's small size must be very low capacity. I rather think they are making the common mistake in the design of relying far too much on the regeneration to make for an adequate range. That won't produce anything much worthwhile. .

    Interesting.

Like A to B magazine, which incorporates "The Folder", I believe Brompton don't think a practical e-folder possible at present. Weight is the main problem, with bulk also in play. A Brompton alone is compact enough but also as much weight as an average person would want to carry. Adding a few...

Brompton have been promising a e-folder for years, so I won't hold my breath yet. .

Trek battery with built in tail light

There isn't usually, but it's common for assistance to get very weak in the final stages, giving a form of warning. Personally I always ignore battery level meters and go my mileage once I know what a bike is capable of. You'll probably soon get enough experience of yours to do the same...

    Copenhagen wheel

If it's successful enough in the States, they may send a modified controller 250 watt version into Europe, but it would have to be speed restricted too. .

What tool do I need to remove this?

Me too! And we used to in the trade as well. There probably weren't any proper tools being made at that time post war anyway. .

    Socket for the crank arms?

Yes, sets often jump from 17 to 19mm. I've also normally made them from old imperial spanners as shown on this web page. .

    Socket for the crank arms?

Yes, probably the socket type then as you say, I have some like that with sloppy fits, some also too thick walled to enter the crank opening. .

    Socket for the crank arms?

Are you sure the 13 mm won't fit by tapping it on? I've had this before where the socket was a very tight fit, the next one up being too loose and likely to destroy the nut as you say. .

Last yesterday's Commons DEbate on e-bike regulations

. Yes, the kit car industry was nearly killed by such regulations. .

    Copenhagen wheel

And Copenhagen where it was developed is very flat. I can't see it competing on level terms with current e-bike systems, only having convenient conversion in it's favour. .

Last yesterday's Commons DEbate on e-bike regulations

I agree good tyres and tubes are always best, but having only one specified brand and model as part of the type approval is too restrictive. It rules out changing to winter tyres for example, or tyres with treads more suitable for one's personal cycling, or even better tyres. .

Trek battery with built in tail light

Yes, very expensive as i thought. Unfortuantely you won't be able to use any other battery as d8veh says, the CANbus system that ties their batteries to their motors rules out any generic replacement. So best to get everything you can out of the present one and convert as previously discussed...
