    I've resigned.

It's interesting, isn't it, that while the politicians keep pushing back the official age of retirement while worrying about how retirement can be financed, the public are increasingly doing the opposite. Years ago it was widely accepted that one worked full time to 65 and people mostly did...

    Happy New Year from Pedelecs!

Thanks VictoryV, but a minor reminder that anneé is feminine, so the written expression is "Bonne Anneé. Most commonly good health is wished as well in a rhyming form: "Bonne Anneé et Bonne Santé" .

Problem charging Panasonic EKE007 NiMH battery for Lafree Twist

That battery thermistor at 7.5k at room temperature seems ok. Although these have always used the four connection system, you may find that one side of the thermistor circuit is commoned to earth somewhere. It was on my one that was supplied with the Panasonic charger in 2003 and you may have...

    I've resigned.

I retired at 54, never looked for a job again and for me it was the start of the best time of my life. It should be a careers option for those leaving school. :D .

    Seeking clarity on the law

Yes Kinninivie, it really is a mind boggling thread if read right through. Two of those contributing have since been permanently banned from membership of the pedelecs site following further problems of a similar nature. I always find it sad when people cannot politely disagree, preferring to...

    Seeking clarity on the law

Further to KudosDave's post, there's an extract of the main state differences in American e-bike law in this post of mine .

Problem charging Panasonic EKE007 NiMH battery for Lafree Twist

I'm familiar with the Metco charger which was supplied with the Lafree during 2003 after the original Panasonic charger for the unit was found to be failing prematurely. However, I don't recognise the three flashes you are getting on plugging in to charge. These problems on the Lafree are...

    Seeking clarity on the law

THe DfT have clearly stated that there will be no prosecution of e-bike riders complying to EU pedelec power limit law where it differs from UK law, and the police are aware of this. Below are extracts from their statements on this subject: Summary of Government response to consultation...

    More power from a Giant?

. Given the eZee motor power at maximum, a tow rope like this? ;) .

    More power from a Giant?

I agree with d8veh that it's an unpromising basis to work from. These were always one of the slowest e-bikes, experienced reviewers A to B magazine remarking on riding one version that it was akin to dying of boredom. The motor is a very old design, first sold as the regenerating "Motorised...

Can anyone identify this Panasonic Motor / thing?

John, the link I added at the end of my post probably after you read it contains my question whether hub motors were about to be dominant. Clearly that soon reversed with a big swing back to crank drives by many makers, though now we are back to uncertainty with strong contenders including your...

Can anyone identify this Panasonic Motor / thing?

It's the combined pedelec/torque sensor/control unit for some of the Panasonic front hub motors. There have been various versions of these since 2009 and one without regen was used by Germany's Derby Cycle gmbh brands Kalkhoff/Raleigh etc up into 2011/2. The introduction of these motors...

I`m Dreaming of the perfect winter bike boot.

Keeping on the wellies theme, if you go to one of the larger independent motorcycle dealers with a clothing department, they sell dairy boots. These are wellingtons in style but often with somewhat more normal sole and heel areas, making them ok for motorcyclists. Could be worth investigating...

The power cuts out during riding

It's a Currie Electrodrive motor on that e-bike, shown in various ways on the link given. There's a secondary chain drive to the wheel hub from the motor's integral reduction gearbox. The secondary chain has a wedge shaped adjustable tension block against it and that might be implicated in the...

    2 Wheel drive ?

And the simplest way to create two wheel e-drive on a bike is to add a front wheel hub motor kit to any crank unit e-bike. If the latter is a pedelec it also solves the problem of how to deal with two throttles. .

    Another question - batteries

They are mainly brand specific in various ways. Some of the lower cost e-bikes made in China tend to use standard types that can be bought independently, mainly direct from China though. The problem it's best to avoid is buying an e-bike with a special integral battery system when the...

    Seasons Greetings From Cyclezee

I'm not surprised. Yesterday's news caried a report that last Christmas Day hundreds of thousands were shopping online and reckoned this year will be even busier. First Sunday as we once knew it disappeared, then Good Friday and now it's Christmas Day becoming like any other. .

    2015 rumours???? pre-Christmas fun!!!

I hope so. I was pushing the idea of a two speed hub back in 2008 and well before the first two commercial ones were conceived. It's such an obvious solution and avoids all the disadvantages of crank drives. .
