    Kalkhoff Agatu electrical repair work

Hi all, my wife's Kalkhoff has had an unfortunate accident and the electrical cable ( 8 core I think) has been pulled out of the handlebar mounted controller. Our local Kalkhoff retailer has advised that this unit is not repairable and entire control system needs to be replaced. This is...

    Regenerative braking?

Doesn't this mean a greater chance of needing new discs since the pads are not clearing the surface rust which seems to happen on discs? I've been told by my dealer that my rear discs need replacing because I haven't been braking hard enough!

More Power from Impulse 2 motor.

After all that's been said on this forum about the Impulse 2, I don't think it would be easy to sell, even though it is a great bike! Its not a problem on most rides, just the occasional mountain in North Wales, so we will carry on as now.

More Power from Impulse 2 motor.

Thanks for that Flecc - I think I best leave it alone! It's not so much more power from the unit she wants as less input from her! She doesn't really mind stopping to rest, but I then get bored waiting!

More Power from Impulse 2 motor.

Hi, My wife has a Kalkhoff "Agattu Premium Impulse 8" with the Impulse 2 motor. She finds she cannot keep going on long hills due to a lack of strength, and has to stop and rest. She is not particularly interested in having power available over 15.5mph but would like more power on hills so she...

Hi, coming back to Wales for another holiday

I know it was just a final quip, but "no restrictions" is not as fast as it sounds. The resistance to movement goes up dramatically with speed so it will be limited by the power available. The air resistance at 20 mph is 4 times that at 10mph, at 30 mph it would be 9 times. At 40mph it is 16...

Need help choosing a bike for 19 mile commute

That makes no sense at all IMO. Of course its true that a dongle that removes the cut off limit will not increase the power. But a 350W motor is going to be more powerful than a 250W motor. Watts are a measure of power so more Watts equals more power! SO you will be able to go faster up hill...

Need help choosing a bike for 19 mile commute

This average speed thing is widely misunderstood. Many people think that if they are cycling at - say 20mph much of the time then their average will be around 20mph. In fact it is more likely to be around 15mph. Consider that every time they stop - traffic, junctions, etc they will spend time...

Need help choosing a bike for 19 mile commute

Yes, with the segment I quoted and the one from Artstu, the average is 12% but if you run the cursor over the graph of the incline it shows the spot incline and these are over 20% in both cases for short distances.

Need help choosing a bike for 19 mile commute

This is North Wales not the Pyrenees. The mountains are comparatively small and steep. Inclines over 20% are not unusual, but are generally only that steep for a few hundred yards at most. Whereas the roads you ride in the Pyrenees will be generally carefully engineered, North Wales older roads...

Need help choosing a bike for 19 mile commute

To give you an idea of what can be done here is a ride I did with two 17AH batteries. The second one was still about 50% charged at the end. https://www.strava.com/activities/1243570906 . Don't anyone say it wasn't steep!

Hi - thinking about converting to ease a long commute

Andy, I can’t advise you about those particular bikes but would urge you to try before you buy. You sound as if you have been a regular cyclist for a while, plus your route is fairly flat.In this case you may often be already riding above the cut off speed for a legal electric bike. This means...

    Hi from Brentwood

I would have thought that to keep this machine legal, you would enter a minefield of Type Approval issues, plus Insurance Issues and finish up with something that does nothing particularly well. Have you considered just getting rid of your dirty diesel and getting a decent electric bike? Then...

    Hello from Bedford

Hi Steve and welcome to the forum. I'm sure you will have lots of fun on your new bike, especially when the better weather arrives. There is some great countryside around Bedford for you to explore and you will soon be doing distances you didn't think would be possible on a bike. Please excuse...

Ongoing reliability of Kalkhoff/Focus Impulse 2 motors

I thought there might be some interest on this thread in this ride which I did this week on my Kalkhoff. It was a tough 92 miles with 9000ft of climbing. I took a second battery with me and used about 50% of its capacity as well as my first battery. The bike behaved perfectly throughout despite...

Ongoing reliability of Kalkhoff/Focus Impulse 2 motors

I thought I would lighten the mood ( some hope) by commenting on a post some pages back asking about the range and struggling to understand the variability. I did this ride on Sunday - covered 60 miles including 5200 ft of ascent and had 17miles left in the battery at the end. All done in Eco...
