    Sat Nav for cycling

I have a Garmin Edge 1000 which I use mainly on my unpowered bike, but also on the E-bike. Great advantages I see over the Phone is that it is a) Preloaded with maps and needs no downloads b) Waterproof c) Much better battery life than my Iphone 6 when running Satnav. Note that a) is not just...

Using a lightweight generator to charge Bosch e-bike battery

It wouldn't exactly be doing both at once, but changing between the two depending on how much power you were taking out of it, compared with what you are putting in. I don't see hwy this should cause a problem.

Using a lightweight generator to charge Bosch e-bike battery

You might as well get a Honda 50. http://www.honda.co.uk/motorcycles/range/scooter/vision-50-2012/overview.html

Dynamos and hub dynamos, Battery charging

You get nothing for free in this world - ie you can't make a perpetual drive machine. Whatever power you take off your dynamo will have to be input from either you or your motor. If its coming from you, then why bother carrying the weight of motor, battery around, just get an unpowered bike. If...

    Need a good hill climber

Note that the bike I was commenting about is the 350W version, whereas the ones you mention are 250W - like my wife's. It seems to go up hills very well and my wife is very pleased with it, but she hasn't yet tried any really tough hills.

    Need a good hill climber

I haven't found any hills in North Wales that my Kalhoff and I can't cycle up yet. However its important to understand that it is not just the motor that takes you up hill, its dependent on your input as well, unless you have a throttle type - which may just stop, or go so slow you can't...

    Do you swing both ways?

I have a touring bike ( Thorn Raven Sport) which I use for most of my riding - based around Cheshire. We have a caravan in North Wales where I have a choice of riding on reasonable gradients on very fast, busy roads ( eg the A5) or very quiet but steep country lanes. The e-bike makes this much...

    Kalkhoff Pro Connect. Impressive range.

Which model of Kalkhoff bike was this on Lowranger? I'm interested if it is a standard or an "s pedelec" since I think the extra power and speed available on the S Pedelec models would reduce this range. Chris Ahh - just spotted on another of your posts that it is a Pro Connect Impulse 10 -...

50 CYCLES A WARNING no quibble guarentee

John, my wife's belt drive model has vertical drop outs. As for mine - well I don't have access to it to check at the moment, will check the detail next time I do. I did look at the time of the original post and am sure they are not horizontal......to be continued! Not the issue I know but my...

50 CYCLES A WARNING no quibble guarentee

I think its worth pointing out that this problem with horizontal drop outs does not apply to at least some of the current Kalkhoff range which have chain drive. I know John talks about the Belt drive models, but mine has chain drive, but does not have horizontal dropouts. I have therefore found...

Which electric bike do you own?

The list of Kalkhoff bikes seems to be very small compared with the varieties available. Not sure where to add either of ours.(see below) Chris

Best Ebike mileage.....on ONE battery charge

I have noticed that when uploading rides to Strava from other sources that it ignores the stated distance/elevations and recalculates them itself based on the route information. I have also compared my Iphone running Cyclemeter with my Garmin and the results are virtually identical.

Best Ebike mileage.....on ONE battery charge

I must say I wondered about that too, interesting that Strava calculates it so differently. Which app did you use to record the ride? Is it possible to download the route from your app and then upload it to another to see what the difference is? I have always just accepted these calculations but...

Best Ebike mileage.....on ONE battery charge

I did 75 miles on one charge ( two rides) on my Kalkhoff with 17AH battery - deliberately being easy on the power, eco almost all of the time, only a few minutes higher. This was on the flattish Cheshire lanes. However the ride I was most impressed with, that the bike managed with one charge...

I would agree with d8veh, the Thorn would sell for a good price on EBay. Shame to spoil it!

    Kalkhoff Pro Connect Impulse 9 / 10 (9-G/10-G)

I had one of those cycle recovery insurance policies once when I was riding John o'groats to Land End. I broke a gear cable and tried to call them out. They said that if I could get any gear then the bike was "rideable" and so I was not covered. It didn't matter that I was 20 miles and many...

I am a 65 year old who has bought an electric TRIKE second-hand

I've never ridden a trike but I have met a number of enthusiasts at times. As I understand you have to steer by using the handlebars to turn. Many people think this is what they do on a two wheel bike, but in fact its almost entirely by leaning - unless you are manoeuvering at very low speed...

    UKIP Manifesto

The only good thing I can say for UKIP is that they have driven the BNP out of electoral existence. Quote from the Independant "The British National Party has received just 1,667 in the 2015 UK general election, a vast drop from 2010 when it garnered 563,743. The far-right party fielded just...

    Batteries in Serial

Do you mean would two batteries go less far than one, or would they go less than two parallel? I would say somewhere between. The extra power available would not always be required so you would reduce throttle ( compared with 1 battery) in order not to go faster than you needed, this would...
