    Newbee

Thats a minor detail, given the cost of an eBike you might expect the seller would provide fatter tyres, that may well be the same cost, if asked.

    Newbee

Long list and i would be surprised if anyone can select a 'perfect' bike from that list. Since you have not ridden an eBike before, its going to be a good idea if you can find a friendly dealer who you can either hire or borrow an eBike from and take it on a typical type of ride. I suspect...

Smoke coming from Pendleton e-bike battery

How can we know for sure ? The longer you leave the bike with the battery still attached outside and nothing happens, I would suggest the less the risk there will be when its removed. If it were my bike, I would leave it overnight.

    Train E-bike ban

I can see this possible ban spreading, remember its mostly private companies that run the railways and they will, probably reasonably, be looking to protect themselves against paying for insurance or meeting claims, if there were an accident. Problem is there does not appear to be any form of...

    Train E-bike ban

The motor wheel is the front. Rear wheel looks normal. Now there is a thought, the Brompton has some big frame tubes, wonder if you could hide the electronics in them and use an external bagette battery ?

    Train E-bike ban

Well for other reasons too, I would rather not have eBrompton readilty identifiable as an eBike. For instance a black wheel rim and motor might look better, but does look eBikeish, but a silver\aluminium one less so. Stealth LCD4 on the handle bars. And a real small battery\controller bag...

    Train E-bike ban

Some of the reasons given, for the potential ban, appear to be based on accidents that have happened whilst chargeing batteries, so you might think banning charging of eBikes batteries on trains would be enough. Interesting that they also appear to want to ban eScooters as well, which are...

    New Chinese "500 Wh/kg" battery

Lithium batteries in (real) aeroplanes dont have a good history, ask Boeing.

    I know. So many dilemmas.

    eBrompton Build

Well for your average eBike going light might not be so easy. But the Brompton is so popular, especially far East , that a lot of the leightweght stuff for it is not expensive.

    eBrompton Build

What I might do is shorten the 1 to 4 by cutting off most of the 8 pin cable and re-joining it. Not sure I would solder the brake, display etc direct in that way, if you get a fault its not so easy to replace the defective bit.

    eBrompton Build

I concur about the 1-4 Julet, the use of JST-SM equiped brake sensors, display etc (that normally have with long cables) would be better, and likley something I will work around to doing. The Motor cable is not so obvious, you can get 60cm extensions and that is close to what I might need.

Conversion kit There is a base conversion kit out there, without battery, from TOPBIKEKIT, that comes with a KT controller, LCD4 display (small and light!), brake levers with switches, motor cable, 1to4 cable and optional battery. Its based on Julet connectors and costs about £300. It would...

    eBrompton Build

What, you mean will it work or will it not ? There is quite a lot to work out. Its not so bad if your not worried about the weight side or having a neat setup without piles of cables everywhere.

Brompton conversion kit using JST-SM connectors ?

TOPBIKEKIT do a base Brompton conversion kit, 16" motor wheel, KT sine controller, LCD4 display, switched brake levers and cables for around £300. It uses Julet waterproof connector cables and a 1-4. Does anyone know of a similar kit that uses the JST-SM style controller and connectors ?

Where to put it all So where does the battery, controller and all those spare wires go ? Some Brompton conversion kits put the battery\controller in a bag or case on the front of the handlebars, for example the standard Swytch setup. But using this location means the battery\controller must...

    Chainring size advice.

You can use a gear calculator that tells you the gear inches you currently have. If the prime requirement is more hill climbing for steep hills, then clearly you need a lower gear. However given that riding styles vary, weights vary and steepness of hills varies, I cannot see how you can...

Brake sensors and 1 to 4 cable differences.

Yes, I sort of guessed that. The kit I was looking at, does have supplied brake levers with sensors, bu they are naff looking. Looking at the levers, I can just see a way of using one of those stick on sensors (2 pin) on the black part of the lever body with a magnet inside the hollow area...
