Need help deciding on spec of electric bike

I think if I was going to carry a child on a eBike, I would want it to be road legal.

    27.5 bad for road use?

Exactly ! Once you have sold a bike with xxxxx to everyone, you have to introduce yyyyy, and make out its better, in order to sell more bikes. And then its zzzzz, and pretty soon you can start introducing aaaaa again.

    Extra-salty lithium-ion batteries won't burst into flames?

Or does the battery need to have chips in it ?

    Bag kits for Brompton

Get mugged you mean ? That one of the issues I guess, the T-Line Brompton does look real expensive, and light so easy to run off with, even folded. Whereas my current (20 year old) one does look a bit battered and aged.

    Bag kits for Brompton

Thanks, I will await it appearing on the Website. I do like to think ahead and find my Swytchified Brompton so handy, that I would like a spare setup, and battery, ready to hand. Another Swytch setup is maybe not the way to go, given the fold issues with that setup. And I keep hoping someone...

    LEF ebike/microcar

The current apparent empassis on electric cars being a significant 'solution' to climate change is completly and uterely pathetic. I was listening to R4 yesterday morning, and something I had realised for a few years was mentioned. Apparently the second hand value of electric cars is falling...

    Bag kits for Brompton

OK thanks. I do like my Swytch Electric Brompton, so handy for shopping and stuff, I keep it by the front door. So useful do I find it that I have been thinking for a while to have a 'spare' setup ready to hand in case there was an issue with the current setup. Do you know how much weight...

    Bag kits for Brompton

You might think this an odd question, but is your kit plug compatible with the front wheel motor that would be fitted on a Swytch Brompton conversion ?

    Battery life

You cannot of course, without checking, but if the charger takes the batteries above the safe limit during 'normal' operation, the damage is already done.

    Battery life

Oh, indeed they do. But in general thats only a significant issue if there left unused for long periods, the chemical film that is the insulator breaks down with age and can get shorts (and explosions) at switch on. I have to switch on my 1940s valve radio that I have in my workshop (great for...

    Battery life

For sure you dont want to overchage a battery. But if the charger has a cut-off voltage of 4.2v say, it cuts off charge when the batteries reach that point. So how would leaving the charger connected cause overcharge, if you continue to apply charge after the 4.2V point, the battery voltage...

    Battery life

Really ? Failures in a lot of electronics stuff is often due to the physical stress when things switch on an heat up or switch off and cool down etc. Something that has warmed up and is temperature stable, like a charger thats been on for a while is not that likely to fail. Electronic stuff...

    Battery life

I have seen this mentioned a few times, so what is the exact issue (apart from a waste of energy) of leaving the charger connected longer than necessary ?

my office building is instituting a ban on lithium-ion cell e-bikes. what options do i have?

I doubt they do, but then its highly likely that stuff like mobile phones, has had carefull control in manufacture and or repair, and its only a single cell. With eBike batteries, that have a great many cells, who knows what controls went into their build ?

    Battery life

Not a lot I guess, but it would likely vary depending on the particular diode, and the amount of current, which in turn would affect the temperature. Its data that just might be in the particular diodes data sheet. It does vary quite a bit with the amount of current, higher voltage drop for...

    trackers / theft protection

When the tracker is phoning home then I guess the scanner would pick it up. How often does the tracker phone home, when not in alarm mode ?

    trackers / theft protection

Unless the tracker is in alarm mode, as in actually transmitting an alert, there is not much for a scanner to detect, depends on the scanner I suppose.
