Suggestions for Cycle Route Planner ?

I use OsmAnd on a small Android tablet which I can attach to the handlebars when exploring. The maps based on openstreetmaps and are excellent - somewhat clearer than OS maps for navigation - and can show an overlay of cycle routes both on- and off-road. The maps are stored on the device, so no...

Changing from hub motor to mid drive

It's a real product and it's very good. I had my (normal) tubes filled with slime, but a big jagged bit of glass was too much for the slime to cope with. A miserable time changing the (normal) tube by the side of a busy dual carriageway. I've now gone the Gaadi way and the one puncture I've...

Hi! I’m Daniel and would like to ask something.

The pedal reflectors are probably more important than any other reflectors or lights. Seeing the two amber bars going up and down shouts "BIKE" like nothing else. And unlike a single red or white light, the pedal reflectors give a sense of distance too.

    Entry level bike?

Not me - it was the OP I was thinking about.

    Entry level bike?

Is there a bike shop in Cornwall which would support Woosh or Wisper bikes if there was a problem? Both these makes offer excellent value for money and because they are not "main stream" give great customer service, but local support is not a given. Common "bicycle" faults are easily fixed by...

DVSA take companies to Court for selling illegal bikes.

Have a look at the Which E-bike and Introduce fora - There are a large number of people looking into e-bikes specifically because they ***cannot*** pedal hard. In my own case, I Wooshed my bike because I was waiting for a knee replacement and could not walk more than fifty yards without extreme...

Dangerous e-bike chargers found on Amazon and eBay

It's clear from the wording the charity used that they just looked at pictures and condemned the chargers because of the mains plugs. Seems to me that if the manufacturers concerned can't meet the British Standard for mains plugs (which have been in force for many many years), then what safety...

    30h error

Mine gave E30 pretty frequently when first turned on, but went away when the bike was moved. Then one day E30 came up and stayed. Disconnected everything (one thing at a time) and it turned out that the throttle was causing the problem. Since removing the throttle I haven't had E30 at all.

To charge or not to charge ...

That's certainly the ideal. Be nice if they put a charge control switch on the chargers.

To charge or not to charge ...

My regime is - Fully charge (and allow extra time for balancing) if I will be using the bike in the next few days. ~ 75% charge if I will be using the bike fairly soon and top up before going out. ~50% charge for longer term storage (and keep it as cool as possible). I rarely get to below 25%...

    what shoes to buy

I have Gola "Belmont" trainers for cycling - Velcro fastenings so no laces to catch in the chain. Comfortable both cycling and walking. The soles conform to studded MTB pedals so feel really secure. And - they don't cost a fortune (as opposed to most "cycling shoes").

    Newbie with question

You should be able to get them direct from Fazua, but sold out at the moment : shop.fazua.com. 499 Euros for the battery. Try ringing or emailing Fazua and ask them who stocks in the UK.

Adding fixings for battery packs to an alloy frame?

It looks a fairly sturdy bike, so weakening shouldn't be a problem. A drop of lacquer or nail varnish in and around the hole should stop any corrosion problems. I did this on my (alloy) bike and there is no sign of corrosion 3+ years later - and it **has** got wet at times.

Cyclotrotricity crank drive beast, any reviews?

Yes - it's Bafang drive. Looks quite a good deal to me - I might be tempted but I already have two bikes!

    Interesting BMW ebike proposals

BMW have a couple of concept S-pedelecs with some interesting features - Huge battery - 300km (186 miles) range. Use geofencing to restrict to 15mph when using bike lanes, 28mph on city roads and unrestricted out of town. Radar to warn of traffic behind. Apparently BMW are already talking to...

What ebike would be the least effort to ride

First thing is to ask Fiido if you can fit a throttle. (Explain to them why you need it).

    Buying Advice

The Fazua drive on the Boardman is very good "out-of-the-box". You also have the ability to hook up the drive to a PC and tune the assistance levels etc. to suit your style of riding.

Rear lights: which is best, continuous or flashing?

It's much easier for a driver behind to judge the distance of a steady red light. A driver is much more likely to notice a flashing red light. My solution : two lamps - one steady and one flashing - set reasonably far apart. Front lamps - As a pedestrian, cyclist and driver I ***hate*** these...

    Best bicycle navigation software?

Another thumbs up for Osmand. Cycle routes highlighted (including off road such as old railway lines and byeways). Maps are in many ways clearer than OS, yet show loads of info. Navigation really does keep you to the quiet back roads. Best of all it is free!

Electric Bike for light touring - and Halfords

Whyte and Kinesis have rather nice Fazua powered bikes. The Kinesis even has rack fixings on the front forks for serious touring. Like the OP I was taken by the Boardman, but got the Whyte Hoxton for only a little more dosh in a closing down sale. Very pleased with it, although I did have to...
