Hi

Is there anyway on my Kudos king that I can tweak it so the motor doesn't cut out at 15 mph, mine is slightly under the 15 mph and it would be nice to have it around 17 mph, before it starts to cut, please note I do not ride my bike on roads its all forest and gravel tracks.

Or could i just replace the controler and speed controller for a different one.

It has the 36 v 250W Suzhou Bafang Electric Motor.

Thanks.

My old Juicy had the same motor as yours, and for my controller it was a grey wire that formed a loop going in and out of the controller. Usually they have a plug in the wire, so you can break it cleanly without having to cut it. Have you a picture of your controller unit?

Kudos Dave should be able to answer your question also.

Thanks for replying, I have looked for such wires but I cant see anything that stands out.I have a spare controller and the all the wires are marked as to what they do.

Whilst Davie K might be able to answer that question,it puts him in a difficult position to reply!a vendor advising to make his machines 'illegal'' and out of warranty, a bit of a no-no ,I'd have thought?

Not that I am making a reply for Kudos Dave ,mind.

Hi
............. please note I do not ride my bike on roads its all forest and gravel tracks.
This isn't intended as a critical comment, just clarification of this point about "off road" use, as it seems to come up regularly.

To be able to ride a wheeled vehicle off road anywhere in the UK (pretty much) where such use is allowed (byways, bridle paths, cycle tracks etc) it has to be either a bicycle or a registered motor vehicle. For an electric bike to be classed as a bicycle means it has to still comply with the law and relevant regulations. If you modify the bike to run faster, then it is just as much a problem legally on a forest track as it is on the road, as in both cases it becomes an unregistered motor vehicle.

I know there are vendors advertising an "off-road" switch or setting on their ebikes, but they too need to be aware that there are now very few places you can ride an unregistered motor vehicle in the UK. Almost all land that is accessible by the public is out, and I believe that the only places such an "off road" power/speed setting could legally be used would be either at a competitive event on a track (with the appropriate consents) or on enclosed private land like a garden.

That's not to say that you shouldn't go ahead and do it, but if you do you need to be aware of the implications, not that I think for one moment that there is a significant risk of ever getting into trouble over this. Personally it wouldn't worry me at all.

No that is absolutely right of you to point that out and I take on board all you say and thank you for taking the time to reply. My problem is my bike is cutting out before the limit, its either fix it......or sell it.

Another controller will do it. the KU63 from BMSBattery or CON! from Greenbilekit will also work, but, if you get any different controller from the one you have, you'll lose your nice LCD panel and five PAS levels. The KU65 from BMSBattery has three PAS levels and an LED control panel.

Your Speed limit is probably set by software accessible through the LCD display. If you have the manual for it, find out how to get into the settings and see if you can find it there.

Thanks for that, most kind I will check it out, yeah I understand about loosing the 5 speed control panel, will have to find a battery meter if I go with franks suggestion. The instructions are very thin for controller but as you say I bet it is possible.......some how.

There should be a separate manual for the LCD panel. If you don't have it, there's one here. If it's not correct, search for "king meter manual" and see what you can find. Let us know if it works.

When you say it cuts out before the 15.5 mph limit how accurate is your measurement ?
Are you using a cheapo cycle computer or are you using something decent like a Garmin 500 ?
that could be why you have a discrepency.

Well I am using the one supplied on the bike that's part of the controller....the one that determines
when the bike should cut out i guess, its 14.7mph and the bike is then on pedal power alone. It use to cut about 15.5

The manual was not the same, can only change voltage, but thanks anyway, I could not find a
other manual on line that I could see would help.

Again thanks for all the help

Note the use of word enclosed. Just being private land is not enough if the public have access to it then it will still need to comply with the law (same for any vehicle including cars). This is because of a change in the law a few years after child was killed by a 15 year old driving his fathers car on a "private" caravan park. Until then this was perfectly legal but now any where that the public has access the vehicle/driver must meet legal requirements (License/Insurance/Tax/Registration etc) as if its on a road.

As Jeremy says not likely to get caught but something to be aware of.

Well if you just want the bike to correctly cut out at the legal speed rather than sooner I should just contact Kudos as I dont see any reason they should not help you as all you are asking is for it to work correctly at the legal limit.

Around here (Wiltshire) there's been a clamp down on the use of unregistered motor vehicles on "green lanes" across the Plain, and there are several groups of volunteers who seem to make it their business to report people riding motorcycles etc on tracks and paths. These people are quite well up on the law and wouldn't hesitate to report someone if they saw it as an opportunity to get another wheeled vehicle off routes that they believe should only be walked or ridden on horseback, even if bikes are legally allowed.

How to put this in a fair way, I would rather just sell the bike and buy something else.
