Hello there,

I've a quick question. I'm going to potentially buy another bike so I need to know if I calculated the dropout correctly. I'm testing on my actual bike.

Measure from the left side

Measure from the right side

I'm not sure to have done the measures correctly, but it seems that I have 160mm dropout on my bike.

Is it normal? Is it the space required for disc brake? Not sure I measured it correctly.

Thanks guys

I'm unsure but i have heard/read that the standard drop out on a bike is 135mm, but unsure if thats a disk bike or not, try googling the spec's of a specialized rear disk bike ? may be some information on the specification regarding the dropout's ???

It looks to me the tape is overlapping the width you are measuring (from the angle of the photo). Take out the wheel and re-measure it.

Normal bike rear dropouts are usually 130 or 135 mm, but it's not unusual to find wider ones on e-bikes with rear hub-motors, especially when the motor is an internally geared one and even more so when equipped with a brake.

155 to 160 mm would be perfectly normal in the case of your bike with it's internally geared hub-motor, freewheel sprocket cluster and disc brake.

If it's any help, a crude measurement made with a tape across the back of my Cyclamatic Foldaway suggests 160mm. Note - this machine fitted with a V-brake on the rim, not a disk brake like yours.

mxer125, the problem is that there are very few documentation about my bike. So I don't know any of the components and I have to guess everything by myself. The seller (conhismotor) himself doesn't know most of the time...

Wurly, I'm just going to approximative measurement as I just wanted to know if my measure was correct. I was planning to check another bike dropout (Mezzo) to see if a motor can be installed.

D8veh, I thought it was a direct drive motor but maybe it's a geared motor like Cyclamatic? I've never felt the drag from the motor anyway...

I was meeting someone to potentially buy the Mezzo bike. I measured the rear dropout and it's 135mm. So the Bafang 36V500W can fit this 16" bike. I tried to ride it but I wasn't that nice to ride. The fold wasn't that convincing too, and it wasn't rolling that well once folded. Now I'm officially hesitating between the Dahon Jetstream and the Mezzo bike to electrify.

16" wheels might be a bit small for a big motor like the BPM. The spokes would be quite short. Best to consult with an expert about that before committing yourself.
