there are 8 new Bosch powered Haibikes for 2012 ( unveiled in 2 weeks @ Munich show) Some really nice looking bikes, among them a 29inch wheeled bike as well (KTM's 29 incher getting very good feedback already) As to what models come here who knows.......

I will be placing an order for the 2012 FS RX as soon as the preorder opens up. My local dealer says a february delivery should be possible. I've also asked if there will be a 350W offroad version.

No 350W version, unfourtunately.

Also, I wanted to buy the bike with extra battery and charger. Haibike told my LBS that we had to buy those from Bosch. I find that very strange...the batteries are colour-coordinated with the bike and carry a Haibike logo. Do I ask Bosch for a white Haibike-edition battery???

I'm not convinced that this is necessary on a crank drive. The additional power provided by the motor gives a lot more flexibility in each gear than you get with legs alone. With my 8 speed Alfine & Panasonic combination, I find myself shifting up 2 or 3 gears at a time because the closeness of the ratios isn't necessary.

I like the look of the Bosch bikes, but still have doubts about the refinement of the drive system.

Who is your local dealer?
Don't worry, not more competition!lol I think TorAtle lives in Scandinavia

TorAtle, You should be able to order a 350 watt from Germany? I ordered my KTM Bosch direct from Germany, approx 70 euro for delivery.....

From my limited knowledge, I find these bikes are terribly over priced. I am talking at least £1k too much. I could be wrong though.

Re-assuringly expensive are the words you are looking for. If they really are MTBs and are able to stand up to all the bashing and crashing---fine, but is there much of a market for e-MTBs?
If on the other hand they are only used on the roads, then they are over complex and over priced to meet the demands placed upon them.

hmmm, seems to me when you look at the parts spec on these machines they are by no means "top quality" and hence my conclusion they are overpriced.
I have been out of the bike parts game for a long time now. ( I used to be a road racer and a dispatch rider in the late 80s and was into bikes till the late 90s) But I look at what they have on them and they seem mid range at best. Like I said I could be wrong. :)

Good guess, I live in Oslo.

I don't think the 350W version is limited to Germany only - it's not available at all. The 2012 bikes are already starting to roll out and Bosch said the new Drive Unit 45 will hit the OEMs in december. Maybe an option later on but not yet it seems.

Pricing is ok, it's got good quality components after all. At the moment it's also without competitors - does anyone know of other full suspension, crank drive trail/XC bikes? Preferably made in the EU. Ideally I'd like 14cm travel and a bit slacker head tube angle...like a Specialized Stumpjumper FSR.

My last reply was delayed 5(?) days awaiting moderation. Not easy to participate with such restrictions.

If you take the example of the Haibike xDuro FS, then the components are about mid-range, on an unpowered bike this would be around £1500+, so the electric adds about £1,000 maybe a bit more, which seems to be industry standard pricing for the crank drive's. I can assure you all that the bike is standing up well to plenty of off-road crashing and bashing and performing as designed and would agree that if your main aim is to use this bike as a hybrid on-road and rough tracks/byways machine then it is over engineered for the job and a cheaper bike would be just as suitable.

And this is the price point for such a Hybrid that won't be used for serious mountain bike use. However, there are alot of similar crank drive Hybrid's at this price point therefore plenty of competition for your hard earned, I've not studied the KTM, but higher spec components than the competition would make it better value than the Panasonic drive bikes (I'm guessing).
