dear all, have you had a look at the 2014 extraenergy awards? http://extraenergy.org/main.php?language=en&category=&subcateg=&id=57222
all the winning pedelecs seem to have their batteries located under rear racks? that seems odd to me, I have a Santa Ana and a kalkhoff Tasman. I'm quite happy with both (within the limits of what each is and, more to the point, costs), but I wouldn't have said the santa ana's battery arrangement (under the rear rack horizontally and much higher) is at all better than the lower centre of gravity easier to remove, no-space-taken-on-a-rack that can so be used more easily vertical under the seat set-up of the kalkhoff. what are your thoughts?

Previous years Extra Energy tests have often strongly favoured the Panasonic crank unit and similar setups with rear of seatpost low batteries.

The latest test may just be reflecting what they see as a trend. I've never taken much notice of these Extra Energy tests since they are so open to many justifiable criticisms. The Kalkhoffs have received some of their awards in previous years.
